Which aerospace and defense companies sponsor H-1B visas in Kansas?
Wichita-based employers are the primary H-1B sponsors in Kansas aerospace and defense. Spirit AeroSystems, Textron Aviation, and Bombardier have established sponsorship track records for engineering and technical roles. Garmin, headquartered in Olathe, also sponsors H-1B workers in avionics and systems engineering. Defense contractors with Kansas operations, including L3Harris and Boeing, have also filed H-1B petitions for positions in the state.
Which cities in Kansas have the most aerospace and defense H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Wichita accounts for the large majority of aerospace and defense H-1B sponsorship activity in Kansas. Known historically as the Air Capital of the World, Wichita hosts the headquarters or major facilities of several major aviation manufacturers. Olathe, in the Kansas City metro area, is the secondary hub, driven largely by Garmin's avionics operations. Smaller volumes of defense-related roles appear near military installations such as Fort Leavenworth and McConnell Air Force Base.
What types of aerospace and defense roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Kansas?
Roles that qualify for H-1B sponsorship must meet the specialty occupation standard, requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. In Kansas aerospace and defense, this covers positions such as aerospace engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, avionics systems engineers, structural analysts, manufacturing engineers, and software developers working on flight systems or defense platforms. Quality assurance and systems integration roles with specific engineering degree requirements also frequently qualify.
How do I find aerospace and defense H-1B sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters aerospace and defense roles by visa sponsorship type, including H-1B, and by state. Searching Kansas on Migrate Mate surfaces positions from employers with active sponsorship history in the state. Because many Wichita-area manufacturers and Olathe-based avionics firms hire internationally, filtering for aerospace and defense in Kansas on Migrate Mate can surface relevant openings alongside verified sponsorship data.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in Kansas aerospace and defense?
Kansas does not impose additional state-level requirements on H-1B employment beyond federal USCIS rules. However, aerospace and defense roles involving defense contracts or classified programs may require security clearances, which can complicate or delay sponsorship for foreign nationals who are not yet eligible for clearance. Employers working on export-controlled technologies are also subject to ITAR regulations, which can limit the roles available to H-1B holders depending on nationality and technology classification.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B aerospace & defense jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
