Which automotive companies sponsor H-1B visas in Michigan?
Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis are the largest H-1B visa sponsors in Michigan's automotive sector, with significant filings on record through the Department of Labor. Tier-1 suppliers such as Lear Corporation, BorgWarner, Aptiv, and Dana Incorporated also sponsor H-1B workers, particularly for engineering and technology roles at their Michigan headquarters and technical centers.
Which cities in Michigan have the most automotive H-1B sponsorship jobs?
The Detroit metro area accounts for the largest share of automotive H-1B jobs in Michigan, with Dearborn and Warren serving as home bases for Ford and General Motors respectively. Auburn Hills hosts Stellantis's North American headquarters. Southfield, Troy, and Ann Arbor also have significant concentrations of automotive suppliers, R&D centers, and mobility technology firms that sponsor H-1B workers.
What types of automotive roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Roles that require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field are most likely to qualify. Common qualifying positions include mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, software engineers working on vehicle systems, data scientists supporting manufacturing analytics, automotive design engineers, and battery or powertrain research specialists. General assembly or production roles do not meet the specialty occupation standard required for H-1B classification.
How do I find automotive H-1B sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters automotive H-1B sponsorship jobs in Michigan by employer, role type, and location. Because sponsorship willingness varies significantly by company and position, using a platform designed around visa eligibility, like Migrate Mate, saves time compared to filtering through general job listings where sponsorship details are often unclear or absent.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for automotive H-1B sponsorship?
Michigan's automotive industry is undergoing a major shift toward electric vehicles and software-defined vehicles, which has expanded H-1B sponsorship into roles that did not traditionally exist in the sector, including embedded software development and battery engineering. However, auto industry hiring cycles tied to model-year planning can affect timing. H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start date, so job offers typically need to be secured well in advance.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B automotive jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
