Tips for Finding H-1B Sponsorship Jobs in Michigan
Target Michigan's automotive technology corridor
Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis are among Michigan's largest H-1B sponsors, particularly for engineering, software, and data roles. Their supplier networks across Metro Detroit also generate significant sponsorship demand that many job seekers overlook.
Look beyond Detroit to Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids
Ann Arbor's university research ecosystem and growing tech scene produce strong H-1B sponsorship activity. Grand Rapids has a dense healthcare employer base. Expanding your search across these cities meaningfully increases the pool of sponsoring employers.
Focus on large healthcare systems with established immigration programs
Henry Ford Health, Trinity Health, and Michigan Medicine regularly sponsor H-1B workers in clinical, research, and IT roles. Large hospital networks are more likely to have in-house immigration counsel and streamlined sponsorship processes.
Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for H-1B sponsoring employers
Migrate Mate lets you filter job listings by visa type so you're only seeing roles where sponsorship is confirmed. This saves time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship after the interview stage.
Check DOL LCA disclosure data to verify sponsorship history
The Department of Labor publishes Labor Condition Application records listing every employer that has filed H-1B petitions. Searching this database for Michigan employers helps you identify companies with active, repeat sponsorship activity before you apply.
Prioritize cap-exempt employers if timing is a concern
Michigan universities, university-affiliated hospitals, and nonprofit research organizations are often cap-exempt, meaning they can file H-1B petitions year-round without waiting for the April lottery. Employers like the University of Michigan and Michigan State University fall into this category.

Information technology, engineering services, and university research round out the most active sponsoring sectors in the state.
Which cities in Michigan have the most H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Metro Detroit, including Dearborn and Auburn Hills, has the highest concentration of H-1B sponsors due to the automotive industry headquarters clustered there. Ann Arbor is a strong secondary market driven by the University of Michigan and a growing tech sector. Grand Rapids has significant activity in healthcare and manufacturing.

H-1B sponsorship in Michigan most commonly covers software engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, data analysts, IT systems roles, physicians and clinical researchers, and financial analysts. These positions typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical or professional field, which is the core requirement for H-1B specialty occupation status.
How do I find H-1B sponsorship jobs in Michigan?

What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
