Which biotech and pharma companies sponsor E-3 visas in New York?
Several major biotech and pharma employers operating in New York have a history of sponsoring work visas for specialty occupation roles. These include Pfizer (headquartered in Manhattan), Bristol Myers Squibb (with significant New York operations), Regeneron (based in Tarrytown), and Genentech. Smaller biotech firms in the New York City metro area also sponsor E-3 visas, particularly for research and development positions requiring specific scientific expertise.
Which cities in New York have the most biotech and pharma E-3 sponsorship jobs?
New York City, particularly Manhattan and the East Side medical corridor, has the highest concentration of biotech and pharma E-3 roles, especially in clinical development, regulatory affairs, and medical affairs. The Hudson Valley, including Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, is home to Regeneron and related biotech activity. Long Island's biopharma cluster, centered around Hauppauge and Stony Brook, offers additional opportunities in manufacturing and research.
What types of biotech and pharma roles typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship in New York?
The E-3 visa requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning it must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. In biotech and pharma, roles that commonly meet this standard include clinical research associates, regulatory affairs specialists, bioinformatics scientists, pharmacologists, biochemists, and quality assurance managers. General laboratory technician or production roles without a specific degree requirement may not qualify.
How do I find biotech and pharma E-3 sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for E-3 visa holders and lists biotech and pharma roles in New York from employers with a sponsorship track record. Because E-3 eligibility depends on the role qualifying as a specialty occupation, filtering for positions that match your degree field is important. Migrate Mate allows you to filter by visa type, industry, and state, making it easier to identify relevant New York biotech and pharma opportunities without sorting through roles that don't sponsor.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for biotech and pharma E-3 sponsorship?
New York's high concentration of academic medical centers, including Weill Cornell, Columbia, and NYU Langone, means some E-3 opportunities fall within university or hospital research settings, which are cap-exempt for H-1B visa purposes but still fully available for E-3 sponsorship. New York State also has specific wage requirements that employers must meet through the Labor Condition Application process, so prevailing wage compliance is particularly relevant in this high-cost-of-living market.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 biotech & pharma jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
