Which healthcare companies sponsor H-1B visas in Vermont?
The University of Vermont Health Network, including UVM Medical Center, is Vermont's largest healthcare employer and has a documented history of H-1B visa sponsorship for clinical and research roles. Dartmouth Health and smaller regional hospitals such as Northwestern Medical Center and Central Vermont Medical Center have also filed H-1B petitions. Academic medical centers and larger hospital systems are generally more structured for sponsorship than small private practices.
Which cities in Vermont have the most healthcare H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Burlington is by far the most active city for healthcare H-1B sponsorship in Vermont, driven by UVM Medical Center and affiliated academic departments at the University of Vermont. South Burlington and Colchester, which sit within the Greater Burlington area, also see activity. The White River Junction area near Dartmouth Health is a secondary hub, particularly for specialist physician roles.
What types of healthcare roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Vermont?
Roles that commonly qualify include physicians, surgeons, psychiatrists, and other licensed medical doctors, as well as physical therapists, occupational therapists, and clinical researchers with relevant advanced degrees. The H-1B requires the position to be a specialty occupation, meaning it normally requires at least a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Registered nursing roles have historically faced more scrutiny under this standard and are approved less consistently.
How do I find healthcare H-1B sponsorship jobs in Vermont?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking H-1B visa sponsorship, allowing you to filter healthcare roles by state, including Vermont. Rather than sorting through general postings where sponsorship availability is unclear, Migrate Mate surfaces positions from employers with verified sponsorship history. This is particularly useful in a smaller market like Vermont, where sponsored openings are less frequent than in larger states.
Are there any Vermont-specific considerations for healthcare H-1B sponsorship?
Vermont's healthcare system is relatively consolidated, with UVM Health Network holding significant market presence. This means fewer total H-1B sponsors compared to larger states, but the sponsors that do exist tend to be stable, well-resourced institutions. Vermont also participates in federal programs addressing rural healthcare shortages, which can make certain medically underserved designations relevant to J-1 visa waiver pathways, a separate but related visa option some international physicians consider alongside H-1B.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B healthcare jobs in Vermont?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
