Account Director Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a account director in Minnesota?
Most account director roles in Minnesota require a bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or communications, followed by several years of account management or client services experience. Minnesota does not issue a state license for this role. Employers in the Twin Cities typically expect candidates to have agency or corporate marketing experience and a record of managing significant client relationships before moving into a director-level seat.
How much do account directors make in Minnesota?
Account directors in Minnesota earn a median of about $75,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $40,810 for the lowest 10% to over $146,200 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire account directors in Minnesota?
Employers hiring account directors in Minnesota right now include Nextern, VML, and Redstar, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The Twin Cities' deep concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, healthcare systems, and regional agencies means account director openings are spread across industries rather than clustered in a single sector.
Which Minnesota cities have the most account director jobs?
Minneapolis, Maple Grove, and Osseo have the most account director openings in Minnesota. Minneapolis drives the bulk of demand through its concentration of corporate headquarters, advertising agencies, and financial services firms, while St. Paul adds government and healthcare-adjacent clients and Bloomington contributes through its retail, hospitality, and technology employer base.
Are there remote account director jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and more than many client-facing roles allow. About 50% of account director openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the strategic planning and client communication work can be done off-site. The parts of the role most likely to stay fully remote are strategy development, reporting, and internal account reviews, while key client presentations and new business pitches often require in-person attendance.
How can I get hired as a account director in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is to start as an account manager or account supervisor at a Twin Cities agency or a corporate marketing department, then build toward director-level responsibility over time. Large Minnesota employers like Ameriprise, UnitedHealth Group, and regional advertising agencies regularly hire account coordinators and managers as entry points. Building a portfolio of client results, taking on mentorship from senior directors, and earning a project management credential can accelerate the move into director-level roles.
Where can I find and apply to account director jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to account director jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the state. Search the listings, find the roles that match your experience and the industries you want to work in, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
