Account Director Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a account director in Washington?
Account director roles in Washington do not require a state-issued license, but most employers expect a bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or communications alongside several years of account management experience. Washington's dominant tech and aerospace industries favor candidates who have managed enterprise accounts or worked within agency environments. Building familiarity with Washington's major industry verticals, such as cloud technology, healthcare systems, and aerospace contracting, strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
How much do account directors make in Washington?
Account directors in Washington earn a median of about $79,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $45,840 for the lowest 10% to over $149,990 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire account directors in Washington?
Employers hiring account directors in Washington right now include BDA, Adobe, and Bayer, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Washington's concentration of global technology headquarters and major healthcare networks makes it one of the more consistent markets for director-level account roles in the western United States.
Which Washington cities have the most account director jobs?
Seattle and Woodinville have the most account director openings in Washington. Seattle drives the bulk of demand as home to major technology, retail, and media companies, while Bellevue and Redmond reflect the dense concentration of enterprise software and cloud computing employers on the Eastside that consistently recruit at the director level.
Are there remote account director jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 83% of account director openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the role centers on client communication, strategy, and reporting rather than physical presence. The portions of the role most suited to remote work are account planning, performance reviews, and internal stakeholder management, while new client relationship-building often remains in-person.
How can I get hired as a account director in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an account manager or account executive role first, then building toward director-level responsibility over time. Large Washington technology employers and regional advertising and PR agencies regularly hire account coordinators and junior account managers as stepping stones. A portfolio demonstrating client retention, revenue growth on managed accounts, or successful campaign outcomes carries significant weight, as does prior experience in adjacent roles such as sales operations, customer success, or marketing strategy.
Where can I find and apply to account director jobs in Washington?
