Account Director Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a account director in Massachusetts?
Becoming an account director in Massachusetts typically requires a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related discipline, followed by progressive experience in account management or client services. Massachusetts has no state-issued license for this role. Employers across Boston's technology and financial services sectors generally expect candidates to have worked through account manager or senior account manager roles before advancing, with an MBA from institutions such as Boston University or Northeastern giving candidates an additional edge.
How much do account directors make in Massachusetts?
Account directors in Massachusetts earn a median of about $83,760 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,030 for the lowest 10% to over $162,330 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire account directors in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring account directors in Massachusetts right now include Real Chemistry, SMX, and Merge, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of technology firms, financial institutions, and life sciences companies means account director openings appear consistently across both established corporate headquarters and regional offices.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most account director jobs?
The cities with the most account director openings in Massachusetts are Boston, Massachusetts, and Somerville. Boston dominates hiring because it anchors the region's financial services, biotechnology, and professional services sectors, while surrounding markets like Cambridge and Waltham draw demand from the technology and life sciences firms that cluster along the Route 128 corridor.
Are there remote account director jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields, since account directors who manage enterprise or technology clients often work in environments where remote client engagement is well established. About 81% of account director openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting broad employer acceptance of flexible arrangements. Strategic planning, reporting, and internal coordination tend to be the most remote-friendly parts of the role.
How can I get hired as a account director in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing an account coordinator or account manager role at a Massachusetts agency, technology firm, or financial services company and building client-facing experience from there. Large Massachusetts employers such as those in the Route 128 technology corridor and Boston's financial district regularly hire associate account managers as a pipeline into senior roles. A portfolio of client communication samples, a strong internship record from programs at Boston-area universities, and demonstrated proficiency in CRM tools all strengthen an entry-level candidacy significantly.
Where can I find and apply to account director jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to account director jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
