Account Manager Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an account manager in Illinois?
Account management in Illinois requires no state-issued license, so the path runs through education and employer-facing credentials. Most Illinois employers expect a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or communications. From there, candidates typically move up through inside sales, sales development, or customer success roles at Illinois-based companies. Earning a Certified Strategic Account Management (CSAM) credential or completing Salesforce certification strengthens applications for mid-level and senior roles, particularly in Chicago's competitive SaaS and financial services sectors.
How much do account managers make in Illinois?
Account managers in Illinois earn a median of about $66,900 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,530 for the lowest 10% to over $154,070 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire account managers in Illinois?
Employers hiring account managers in Illinois right now include Rent-A-Center, State Farm, and Vestis, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's deep base of Fortune 500 headquarters, insurance carriers, and B2B technology firms means consistent account management demand across the Chicago metro and key suburban employment corridors like Schaumburg and Downers Grove.
Which Illinois cities have the most account manager jobs?
Chicago, Illinois, and Springfield account for the largest share of account manager openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates because it concentrates the state's financial services, enterprise technology, healthcare, and advertising agency employers, while Schaumburg and Naperville attract openings from large corporate campuses and regional headquarters that house dedicated sales and client success teams.
Are there remote account manager jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields, since account management is largely relationship-driven work conducted over calls, video meetings, and email. About 81% of account manager openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly desk-based this role is. Strategic account and enterprise account manager roles at SaaS and insurance companies tend to carry the most flexible location arrangements.
How can I get hired as an account manager in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a sales development representative or customer success associate role at an Illinois-based technology or insurance company, which builds the client-facing fundamentals employers require before promoting into account management. Large Chicago-area employers such as Salesforce, Morningstar, and regional insurance carriers run formal rotational or associate sales programs aimed at recent graduates. A completed Salesforce Administrator certification or a demonstrable internship with documented revenue or retention results gives candidates without full-time experience a concrete edge in Illinois interviews.
Where can I find and apply to account manager jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to account manager jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings updated in real time. Search the listings by city, industry, or seniority level to narrow to roles that fit your background, then apply directly to the ones that match.
