Account Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a account manager in California?
Account manager roles in California do not require a state-issued license, but employers consistently expect a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field. Most California employers want candidates who have experience in client-facing roles, strong CRM skills, and familiarity with their specific industry vertical, whether that is technology, healthcare, or financial services. Building a portfolio of client outcomes and getting experience in inside sales or customer success are the most practical entry paths.
How much do account managers make in California?
Account managers in California earn a median of about $80,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $43,240 for the lowest 10% to over $168,720 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire account managers in California?
Employers hiring account managers in California right now include GameStop, Finish Line, and State Farm, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of SaaS, media, and healthcare companies means account manager demand stays consistent across the state throughout the year.
Which California cities have the most account manager jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego have the most account manager openings in California. San Francisco and the broader Bay Area drive volume through the tech and SaaS sector, Los Angeles through entertainment, media, and advertising, and San Diego through life sciences and defense technology, each anchored by large regional employer bases that keep account manager hiring active.
Are there remote account manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 16% of account manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the role's inherently communication-driven nature. Strategic and enterprise account work tends to be the most remote-compatible, while field-based territory roles covering physical retail or on-site clients are more likely to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a account manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a business development representative or customer success associate role at a California-based technology or SaaS company, which frequently promote from within into account management. Large California employers like Salesforce, Adobe, and Oracle run structured associate programs for recent graduates. A bachelor's degree, demonstrated CRM proficiency, and any client-facing internship experience give candidates a clear edge when applying to these entry-level pipelines.
Where can I find and apply to account manager jobs in California?
You can find and apply to account manager jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Find the roles that fit your experience and target industry, then apply directly to each one.
