Bookkeeper Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a bookkeeper in Colorado?
Colorado does not require a state-issued license to work as a bookkeeper, so most employers focus on education and demonstrated skills. A two-year associate degree in accounting or a related field from a Colorado community college is the most common starting point. Earning the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers certification or the NACPB Bookkeeper Certification adds credibility that Colorado employers recognize. Many candidates start in accounts payable or payroll roles before moving into a full-charge bookkeeper position.
Which companies hire bookkeepers in Colorado?
Companies currently hiring bookkeepers in Colorado include State of Colorado, Ibotta, and EchoStar, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Colorado's mix of construction firms, healthcare systems, and professional services businesses generates steady year-round demand for bookkeeping talent across the Front Range.
Which Colorado cities have the most bookkeeper jobs?
Denver, Boulder, and Englewood are the Colorado cities with the most bookkeeper openings. Denver dominates because it anchors the Front Range's professional services, construction, and healthcare industries, while Colorado Springs draws hiring from its defense contractors and regional health systems, and Boulder's technology and biotech firms add a steady cluster of openings for bookkeepers comfortable with startup and growth-stage environments.
Are there remote bookkeeper jobs in Colorado?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 67% of bookkeeper openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well bookkeeping translates to off-site work. Roles focused on cloud accounting, client billing, and monthly close reporting are the most consistently listed as fully remote, particularly at Colorado accounting firms and multi-location businesses.
How can I get hired as a bookkeeper in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an accounts payable or payroll assistant role, which large Colorado employers in healthcare, construction, and professional services routinely fill with candidates who have bookkeeping coursework but limited hands-on history. Colorado community colleges like Front Range Community College and Red Rocks Community College offer accounting certificate programs that local employers recognize. Building proficiency in QuickBooks and completing a short internship through those programs are the credentials that consistently move entry-level candidates past initial screening.
Where can I find and apply to bookkeeper jobs in Colorado?
You can find and apply to bookkeeper jobs in Colorado on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
