Finance Director Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance director in Colorado?
Most finance directors in Colorado hold a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or business, supplemented by an MBA or equivalent graduate credential. A CPA license recognized by the Colorado State Board of Accountancy is a strong differentiator and is required by many Colorado employers, particularly in healthcare and public companies. Candidates typically build toward the role through senior financial analyst, controller, or VP of Finance positions before moving into the director level.
Which companies hire finance directors in Colorado?
Employers hiring finance directors in Colorado right now include CRUSOE, KeyBank, and Supplied Talent, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Colorado's concentration of defense contractors, integrated health systems, and financial services headquarters generates consistent director-level demand across industries year-round.
Which Colorado cities have the most finance director jobs?
Denver, Lakewood, and La Junta account for the largest share of finance director openings in Colorado. Denver drives the majority of listings as the state's commercial and financial center, home to corporate headquarters, large health systems, and energy companies, while Colorado Springs and Boulder contribute openings tied to aerospace and defense contractors and technology and bioscience employers respectively.
Are there remote finance director jobs in Colorado?
Yes, and more than many senior roles, given that finance director work is primarily analytical, strategic, and desk-based. About 70% of finance director openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting broader flexibility across the finance sector. Financial planning and analysis and corporate strategy responsibilities are the most commonly offered in remote or hybrid arrangements, while controller and compliance-focused roles tend to require more on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a finance director in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving through a structured financial analyst or accounting role at a large Colorado employer, then into a senior analyst or controller position, before stepping into a director role. Health systems like UCHealth and SCL Health, along with defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman, hire financial analysts and offer internal advancement tracks. Earning a CPA through the Colorado State Board of Accountancy and adding FP&A or ERP system experience significantly accelerates that progression.
