Business Development Consultant Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business development consultant in California?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a business development consultant in California. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or a related discipline. Candidates who strengthen their profile with certifications such as Certified Business Development Expert (CBDE) or a Salesforce credential are more competitive in the California market, particularly in technology and healthcare sectors where those credentials carry weight.
Which companies hire business development consultants in California?
Employers hiring business development consultants in California right now include Alvarez & Marsal, KPMG, and BKF Engineers, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, large healthcare systems, and professional services firms means ongoing demand across a wide range of employer types and deal sizes.
Which California cities have the most business development consultant jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego have the most business development consultant openings in California right now. The distribution reflects the state's economic geography: the Bay Area's technology and venture-backed startup ecosystem, Los Angeles's entertainment, media, and professional services industries, and San Diego's life sciences and defense sector each generate consistent demand for business development professionals at multiple seniority levels.
Are there remote business development consultant jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 31% of business development consultant openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the role revolves around calls, presentations, and relationship management that translate well to distributed work. Strategic and account management responsibilities tend to be the most remote-friendly, while roles requiring frequent in-person client entertainment or on-site executive access typically stay hybrid.
How can I get hired as a business development consultant in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a sales development representative or account coordinator role at a California technology or healthcare company, where you build pipeline skills before moving into a full business development title. Large California employers including technology firms in the Bay Area and enterprise software companies in Los Angeles run rotational programs and associate BD tracks for new graduates. A Salesforce certification or a demonstrable portfolio of outreach campaigns strengthens a candidacy significantly against more experienced applicants.
Where can I find and apply to business development consultant jobs in California?
You can find and apply to business development consultant jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings. Find roles that match your experience and target industry, then apply directly to each one.
