Optical or eyecare industry experience preferred but not required — we're glad to train the right leader
Company Overview
Drs. Akre & Clark is a renowned eye care practice with a rich history dating back to 1950. Our doctors and staff proudly serve the community by providing comprehensive eye exams, medical eye care, and a full-service optical dispensary. Our dedicated team of talented Optometrists and staff are committed to providing exceptional patient care while fostering a supportive environment where employees can learn, grow, and thrive.
Job Overview
The Optical Manager owns the day-to-day operations, staffing, and performance of our optical dispensary. We're primarily looking for someone with a proven track record of leading teams and hitting goals — retail, hospitality, healthcare, or another fast-paced, customer-facing environment all count. You'll set clear expectations, coach your team to meet them, and manage the business side of the dispensary (inventory, vendors, budget) with real ownership. Optical industry experience is a plus, not a requirement — we'll teach you the product knowledge if you bring the leadership.
Responsibilities
- Lead, schedule, and coach a team of opticians; set clear performance expectations and hold the team accountable to them
- Own optical sales performance — set goals, track results (capture rate, multiple-pair sales, revenue per patient, and lens upgrades), and course-correct when targets are missed
- Oversee daily dispensary operations: patient flow, order accuracy, turnaround time, vendor credits, and service quality
- Manage inventory levels, vendor/lab relationships, and purchasing budgets
- Resolve escalated patient issues (remakes, insurance questions, billing disputes) quickly and professionally
- Partner with the doctors and front office to keep scheduling and patient hand-offs seamless between clinical and optical
- Monitor key business metrics (sales performance, labor cost, margins) and report regularly to practice ownership
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop optical staff; build a team culture centered on accountability and patient service
Qualifications
- Proven management and leadership experience — 3+ years leading a team in a retail, healthcare, hospitality, or other results-driven environment
- A track record of setting goals and achieving them — sales targets, operational KPIs, team performance metrics, etc.
- Strong people skills: hiring, coaching, scheduling, and holding a team accountable with fairness and consistency
- Comfortable owning a P&L-level view of a department — budgets, vendor management, cost control
- Excellent communication and a genuine, patient-first approach to customer service
- Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable making decisions
- Optical or eyecare industry experience preferred but not required — we're glad to train the right leader on frames, lenses, and insurance
- ABO certification a plus if you already have it
Pay: $60,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- 401(k)
- Dental insurance
- Employee discount
- Flexible spending account

Business Manager Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business manager in Minnesota?
Most business manager roles in Minnesota require a bachelor's degree in business administration, management, finance, or a related field, along with progressively responsible work experience. Minnesota does not issue a state license specifically for business managers, so hiring decisions center on education, demonstrated leadership, and industry background. Employers in healthcare and financial services often prefer candidates who hold a relevant professional certification such as a Project Management Professional credential or a Certified Manager designation.
Which companies hire business managers in Minnesota?
Companies currently hiring business managers in Minnesota include U.S. Bank, Jobot, and Pharvaris, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Minnesota's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major health systems, and large retail and financial services operations means demand for experienced business managers remains broad across the state.
Which Minnesota cities have the most business manager jobs?
Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Rochester account for the largest share of business manager openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro drives the majority of postings, anchored by the corporate headquarters of retailers, insurers, and health systems based there, while Rochester's concentration of healthcare and life sciences employers, including Mayo Clinic, sustains steady openings in that market.
Are there remote business manager jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and they are more common than in many fields, particularly for business managers in financial services, technology operations, and corporate functions. About 62% of business manager openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the role involves planning, reporting, and cross-team coordination rather than physical site oversight. Roles tied to retail locations, plant operations, or clinical settings are far more likely to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a business manager in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a business manager role from a lead or supervisor position in operations, retail, or administrative services. Large Minnesota employers such as Target, Best Buy, and Fairview Health Services regularly promote from within and recruit associates and team leads into management training pipelines. Building foundational credentials, such as a Certified Manager designation or completing a business degree at a Minnesota State system school, strengthens a candidate's profile when competing for a first formal management title.
Where can I find and apply to business manager jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to business manager jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
