Most business operations managers in Illinois enter the role with a bachelor's degree in business administration, operations, or a related discipline, followed by several years in analyst, coordinator, or team lead roles. Illinois does not require a state-issued license for this position. Employers in Chicago's finance and logistics corridors often favor candidates who have completed an MBA or hold a Lean or Six Sigma certification, as these credentials signal readiness for the process improvement work common in Illinois organizations.
How much do business operations managers make in Illinois?
Business operations managers in Illinois earn a median of about $103,570 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,240 for the lowest 10% to over $269,320 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business operations managers in Illinois?
Employers hiring business operations managers in Illinois right now include CarMax, AbbVie, and Vantive, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's mix of Fortune 500 headquarters, major healthcare systems, and large logistics and manufacturing companies creates consistent, year-round demand for this role.
Which Illinois cities have the most business operations manager jobs?
Chicago, Deerfield, and Tinley Park account for the most business operations manager openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the largest share thanks to its concentration of corporate headquarters, financial institutions, and healthcare networks, while suburban hubs like Naperville benefit from the significant corporate campus presence of companies in the technology and professional services sectors that have relocated or expanded beyond the city proper.
Are there remote business operations manager jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and they are more common than in most fields because the core of the role, reporting, process analysis, stakeholder communication, and project coordination, translates well to remote work. About 53% of business operations manager openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of the work. The most fully remote openings tend to be in technology, insurance, and financial services companies headquartered in the Chicago metro.
How can I get hired as a business operations manager in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing an operations coordinator or business analyst role at a large Illinois employer and building from there. Companies such as Advocate Health Care, United Airlines, and Caterpillar run structured associate and rotational programs that move new graduates through multiple operational functions. A Lean Six Sigma White or Yellow Belt certification gives candidates a concrete edge in Illinois manufacturing and logistics interviews, and lateral moves from project coordinator or administrative management roles are a recognized pipeline into operations management across the state.
