Business Operations Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business operations manager in California?
Most business operations manager roles in California require a bachelor's degree in business administration, operations management, or a related field, and several years of progressively responsible experience in operations or project management. California does not issue a state license for this role, but earning a Project Management Professional credential or a Lean Six Sigma certification significantly strengthens candidacy with California's technology, healthcare, and entertainment employers. Many hiring managers in this state also value familiarity with California labor law basics.
How much do business operations managers make in California?
Business operations managers in California earn a median of about $124,390 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,370 for the lowest 10% to over $293,810 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business operations managers in California?
Employers hiring business operations managers in California right now include Finish Line, AutoZone, and McDonald's, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, major health systems, and media studios means demand for operations managers stays broad across industries throughout the year.
Which California cities have the most business operations manager jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Jose have the most business operations manager openings in California right now. Los Angeles drives volume through its entertainment, healthcare, and logistics sectors, San Francisco and the broader Bay Area reflect demand from technology and venture-backed companies, and San Diego's growing biotech and defense industries contribute a steady share of listings.
Are there remote business operations manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most management roles, because business operations managers in analytical, program management, and process improvement functions can often work effectively off-site. About 14% of business operations manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the tech-heavy employer base in the state. Roles focused on facilities, supply chain logistics, or on-site team oversight tend to remain fully in-person.
How can I get hired as a business operations manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an operations coordinator, business analyst, or administrative specialist role at a mid-size or large California employer, then building toward a manager title within two to three years. California technology companies such as those based in the Bay Area and Los Angeles frequently post associate operations or rotational business operations programs for recent graduates. A Project Management Professional certification or coursework in operations management from a California State University campus also helps candidates move into manager-track roles faster.
