About the Team
The SMB Business Development team partners with leading small- to medium-sized restaurant operators across the U.S. to grow and deepen their presence on DoorDash. We focus on acquiring and retaining top restaurant selection by helping merchants transition from multi-platform distribution to exclusive partnerships, while introducing them to DoorDash's full suite of growth solutions—including marketing, fulfillment, and guest engagement tools.
About the Role
As an SMB Business Development Executive II - Acquisition, you will help us acquire exclusivity with the highest-value restaurant partners in our managed SMB segment. In this role, you will lead strategic negotiations and develop data-backed proposals that drive profitability and efficiency for our most valuable SMB merchants. You'll operate as a strategic advisor — using insights, financial modeling, and cross-functional collaboration to design exclusive partnerships that enhance both merchant success and DoorDash's competitive position.
You'll collaborate cross-functionally with teams including Account Management, US Local Markets, Local Marketing, Strategic Finance, Product, and Selection to develop scalable solutions and refine our exclusivity go-to-market strategy. Your insights and feedback will directly influence the evolution of our sales playbook and product development.
As DoorDash continues to expand its merchant solutions — from marketing and fulfillment to loyalty and guest engagement — our Proactive Exclusivity team plays a key role in shaping how top restaurants experience these products. This role offers a front-row seat to innovation and the opportunity to directly influence product strategy through merchant feedback.
You will report to the Manager of SMB Business Development. We expect this role to be flexible with 30%+ of your time traveling into key markets with additional flexibility to work remotely or from a DoorDash office. In addition, this role will require the ability to travel as needed for in-person collaboration through training, offsites, team-building events, and other business related necessity.
You're excited about this opportunity because you will…
- Secure exclusive SMB partners: Lead high-touch, strategic negotiations to win exclusivity with top-value restaurant merchants
- Build data-backed deals: Develop financial models and proposals that drive merchant growth and DoorDash profitability
- Shape the exclusivity GTM: Inform how we sell exclusivity at scale by identifying what works across markets and segments
- Advise merchants strategically: Act as a trusted partner, aligning DoorDash products to merchant goals
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with Account Management, Finance, Product, Marketing, and Local Markets teams
- Refine sales playbooks: Translate deal learnings and merchant feedback into scalable talk tracks and pitch materials
- Own execution end-to-end: Manage opportunities from strategy through close in a fast-moving environment
- Operate entrepreneurially: Move quickly, lead through ambiguity, and take ownership of outcomes
We're excited about you because you have…
- 4+ years of experience in B2B sales, business development, or strategic partnerships
- A strong record of closing complex, high-value deals from end to end
- A consultative sales approach and the ability to align tailored solutions to partner needs
- Experience collaborating across cross-functional stakeholders to deliver integrated outcomes
- Strong financial and business acumen, including comfort working with P&Ls and ROI analysis
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with shifting priorities
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
- Experience using data and analytics to inform deal strategy and influence stakeholders
- Experience structuring or renegotiating complex commercial agreements
- Familiarity with restaurant operations, delivery economics, or digital marketing within a marketplace environment (preferred)

Align your experience to DoorDash's merchant segments
DoorDash structures BD around verticals like restaurants, grocery, and convenience. Frame your resume around partnership pipeline, merchant acquisition, or category expansion rather than generic sales, so your background maps to their actual team structure.
Confirm your visa type before applying
DoorDash sponsors multiple work visa categories for BD roles. Knowing whether your situation calls for an H-1B, E-3, TN, or O-1 visa before you apply helps you answer recruiter questions clearly and avoids delays in the offer stage.
Prepare a specialty occupation narrative early
USCIS requires H-1B petitions to demonstrate the role qualifies as a specialty occupation. For BD Executive positions, document how your degree in business, economics, or a related field is directly required, not just preferred, for the work you'll perform.
Target DoorDash's enterprise and partner teams specifically
BD roles at DoorDash that involve complex contract negotiations, national account management, or platform integrations tend to have clearer specialty occupation arguments. Prioritize these postings when reviewing open roles, as they strengthen a visa petition.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open BD roles by sponsorship type
DoorDash posts BD Executive openings across multiple locations and seniority levels. Use Migrate Mate to filter positions by the visa category you need, so you're only spending time on roles where your sponsorship situation is already a fit.
Negotiate timeline expectations around DOL and USCIS processing
Once DoorDash extends an offer, your start date depends on LCA certification from DOL and, for H-1B transfers or new filings, USCIS processing. Build at least eight to twelve weeks into your expected start date and communicate this upfront with your recruiter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does DoorDash sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Executives?
Yes, DoorDash sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Executive roles. The process requires DoorDash to file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and then submit an I-129 petition to USCIS on your behalf. If you're already on an H-1B with another employer, DoorDash can file an H-1B transfer, which lets you start work as soon as the petition is received by USCIS.
Which visa types does DoorDash commonly sponsor for Business Development Executive roles?
DoorDash sponsors a range of visa categories for BD Executive positions, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican professionals, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students in eligible degree programs. Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 is also available for qualifying candidates in long-term roles.
What qualifications does DoorDash expect for Business Development Executive positions?
DoorDash typically looks for candidates with experience in partnership development, enterprise sales, or account management, ideally within technology, marketplace, or consumer-facing platforms. A bachelor's degree in business, economics, marketing, or a closely related field is generally expected. For visa purposes, the degree field needs to directly relate to the BD function you'll be performing, which matters for H-1B specialty occupation classification.
How do I apply for Business Development Executive jobs at DoorDash?
You can browse and apply for Business Development Executive roles at DoorDash through Migrate Mate, which filters open positions by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm DoorDash is sponsoring your specific category before you apply. Applications typically involve an initial recruiter screen, followed by case study or deal strategy assessments, and then a series of interviews with the BD and cross-functional team.
How do I manage the timing between a DoorDash offer and my visa filing?
After accepting an offer, DoorDash's immigration team or outside counsel initiates the LCA filing with DOL, which takes around seven business days under standard processing. USCIS then processes the H-1B petition, with premium processing available for a roughly 15-business-day turnaround. If you're on OPT with a STEM extension, cap-gap rules may protect your status through the October 1 start date if you're in an active H-1B lottery selection.
