Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility for Business Development Manager roles requires a degree in a field directly tied to the position, such as healthcare administration, life sciences, or business. A general business degree alone may draw USCIS scrutiny, so gather documentation linking your academic background to Quest's clinical services market.
Target Quest's health system and payer verticals
Quest structures BD teams around specific client segments, including hospitals, ACOs, and managed care organizations. Framing your experience around these verticals in your resume positions you as a revenue-generating fit, which accelerates internal sponsorship approval when hiring managers champion your case.
Find open roles using Migrate Mate before applying
Quest's Business Development Manager openings are distributed across dozens of regional territories and rarely centralized. Use Migrate Mate to surface sponsorship-confirmed BD roles at Quest before positions close, so you're applying with current information rather than chasing stale listings.
Confirm LCA wage compliance before your offer stage
Quest must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your H-1B petition proceeds. Ask your recruiter which prevailing wage level applies to your territory, since BD Manager pay structures vary by region and a mismatch between your offer and the LCA wage tier can delay or block filing.
Use F-1 OPT strategically to build your Quest pipeline
If you're on OPT, the 12-month window is tight against Quest's typical hiring cycle. Apply at least three months before OPT expiration to allow time for offer, onboarding, and H-1B cap filing. STEM OPT extension is unlikely for most BD roles, so plan your timeline around the April cap-subject filing deadline.
Request clarity on Quest's internal sponsorship approval process
Large diagnostics companies route sponsorship decisions through HR and legal before an offer is finalized. Ask directly during the final interview round whether sponsorship has been approved for the specific role, not just the company in general, to avoid late-stage surprises after you've resigned from another position.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Quest Diagnostics sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Managers?
Yes, Quest Diagnostics sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Manager roles. The role must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, which means your degree needs to align directly with the responsibilities of the position. Roles tied to healthcare services sales, clinical account management, or managed care partnerships are the most defensible for H-1B classification. Sponsorship decisions are made at the business unit level, so the hiring manager's willingness to sponsor matters as much as company-wide policy.
How do I apply for Business Development Manager jobs at Quest Diagnostics?
Applications go through Quest Diagnostics' careers portal, where BD Manager roles are listed by territory and specialty. Migrate Mate aggregates Quest's sponsorship-confirmed openings in one place, which is useful since positions are posted regionally and can be easy to miss. Tailor your resume to the specific client segment the role covers, whether that's health systems, physician office labs, or employer health programs, before submitting.
Which visa types does Quest Diagnostics commonly use for Business Development Manager roles?
H-1B is the primary visa used for Business Development Managers at Quest, covering both cap-subject new hires and transfers from other H-1B employers. Quest also sponsors TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying BD roles under USMCA professional categories. F-1 OPT and CPT are used for entry-level or rotational programs. For longer-term employees, Quest has filed EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions through the PERM labor certification process with the DOL.
What qualifications does Quest Diagnostics expect for Business Development Manager candidates?
Quest typically looks for a bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the role, such as life sciences, healthcare administration, or business, combined with experience selling into clinical or health system environments. Familiarity with lab services contracting, managed care relationships, or ACO structures is valued. For H-1B eligibility, USCIS will look at whether a specialized degree is a standard requirement for the role, so candidates with directly relevant academic backgrounds are in a stronger position than those with generalist credentials.
How do I time my H-1B application when starting a Business Development Manager role at Quest?
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed during the April filing window for an October 1 start date, meaning your offer needs to be in place before April. Quest can file for cap-exempt transfers if you're already on an approved H-1B with another employer, which allows you to start without waiting for October. If you're on OPT, confirm your expiration date against this calendar early, since bridging gaps with a cap-gap extension requires your OPT and H-1B timelines to overlap correctly.
