ABOUT THE ROLE
ZS’s Data Strategy and Data Office has two pillars. First, we advise clients across sectors — including MedTech, Health, Travel & Hospitality, and other data-intensive industries — on all matters related to enterprise Data Strategy. As data volumes expand and AI reshapes business models, Data Strategy has become a critical, board-level priority. The team supports clients in defining data vision and mission, designing operating models and data organizations, establishing governance and stewardship frameworks, shaping data sourcing and generation strategies, enabling robust data architecture and cataloging capabilities, and driving compliant value creation. In close collaboration with our Digital and Technology practice, we diagnose and execute data strategies, helping clients build data capabilities and products that drive competitive advantage. The second pillar, Data Office, focuses on building and managing strategic relationships with a wide range of data providers to enable differentiated access to data and power innovative ZS offerings and services.
The Data Strategy Associate Consultant will be located close to one of our East Coast U.S. offices and will help deliver world-class solutions that shape and execute enterprise data strategies, primarily in the MedTech, Health Insurance, or Travel & Hospitality sectors. This includes developing data organizations and Data Offices, designing governance and operating models, strengthening AI-ready data foundations, driving data portfolio optimization and value realization, and leading hands-on delivery of data programs. This individual will have high visibility within the firm and will work collaboratively with the broader Data Strategy team across the Americas, Europe and India, as well as with colleagues across multiple practice areas (e.g., Research and Development Excellence, Digital Strategy, Technology Advisory, Compliance, and others).

- Contribute to the design and implementation of strategic data capabilities that strengthen how organizations manage, govern and use data to drive business value
- Own defined workstreams and analyses, supporting project leads in delivering objectives on time and within scope
- Partner with senior team members to support project planning, coordination, staffing and risk management activities
- Build working relationships with client stakeholders and support presentations related to project deliverables, brainstorming sessions, discussions and status updates
- Collaborate with an extended global team of diverse skill sets (knowledge management, data technologists, business operations, etc.) to deliver high-quality outputs
- Provide guidance to junior team members when appropriate
- Contribute to building long-term Data Strategy assets and offerings
- Support proposal development, client discussions and thought leadership efforts where data expertise is needed
- Contribute to developing perspectives on data strategy innovations to build firm intellectual capital and thought leadership
- Support relationship-building efforts with key data partners in the U.S.

Frame your degree around ZS's BD function
ZS recruits BD professionals with backgrounds in business, economics, or life sciences. Before applying, confirm your degree field maps cleanly to the role description, since H-1B specialty occupation approval depends on that alignment holding up under USCIS scrutiny.
Target ZS offices in consulting-dense markets
ZS's BD hiring concentrates in its U.S. consulting hubs. Applying to postings tied to offices with active client portfolios signals a genuine business need, which strengthens the employer's case when filing a Labor Condition Application with DOL.
Distinguish yourself through pharma or healthcare client experience
ZS's BD roles heavily support life sciences and healthcare clients. Candidates who can reference specific therapeutic areas, account management cycles, or RFP processes stand out in interviews and demonstrate the specialized expertise sponsorship filings are built around.
Clarify sponsorship eligibility before the final interview round
ZS supports both H-1B and F-1 OPT pathways, but internal approval processes vary by business unit. Confirm your visa type and employment start date expectations with the recruiter before the offer stage to avoid delays that can affect your OPT or grace period timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active ZS BD openings by sponsorship type
Filtering by role and sponsorship eligibility saves significant time when targeting a specific employer. Migrate Mate lets you browse Business Development Professional postings at ZS filtered by the visa types they actively support, so you're only pursuing roles with a real path forward.
Align your offer start date with H-1B cap deadlines
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start. Confirm your offer timeline accounts for this window, since ZS will need to register during that period for your petition to be eligible in the annual lottery.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ZS sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Professionals?
Yes, ZS sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Professional roles. ZS has a documented history of supporting work visa filings for this function, and its consulting business model is built around retaining specialized talent. If you're pursuing a cap-subject H-1B, your offer needs to align with USCIS's March registration window for an October 1 start date.
Which visa types are commonly used for Business Development Professional roles at ZS?
H-1B is the primary long-term work visa ZS uses for Business Development Professionals. For candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 student visas, ZS also supports F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT pathways, which allow you to begin working before an H-1B is filed. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles may also be eligible for TN visa status.
How do I apply for Business Development Professional jobs at ZS?
Applications go through ZS's careers portal, where BD roles are listed by practice area and location. Tailoring your application to highlight client-facing consulting experience and familiarity with ZS's life sciences focus improves your chances significantly. You can also browse current openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate before applying directly through ZS.
What qualifications does ZS expect for Business Development Professional roles?
ZS typically looks for a bachelor's degree or higher in business, life sciences, economics, or a related field, along with experience in client development, proposal management, or account strategy in a consulting or healthcare context. Familiarity with ZS's core industries, particularly pharmaceutical and medical device clients, is a meaningful differentiator in the hiring process.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship for a ZS BD role?
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your remaining authorized period before accepting an offer, since ZS will need enough runway to file your H-1B petition if a transition is planned. STEM OPT extensions give eligible candidates up to 24 additional months. For cap-subject H-1B cases, work backwards from the October 1 start date and confirm your offer is in place before the March USCIS registration window.
