As a Senior CSM, you'll be the key relationship manager for a book of business holding new and existing complex hosting and colocation customers. Ultimately responsible for customer satisfaction and retention, you'll achieve this through a variety of touchpoints and activities. Tips for Your Customer Success Manager Job Search
Quantify retention and expansion outcomes
Hiring managers for customer success manager roles want to see churn reduced and net revenue retention improved. Replace vague claims with numbers: renewal rates you owned, accounts you expanded, or escalations you resolved before they became churn risks.
Tailor your resume to the CS motion
Enterprise and SMB customer success roles require completely different resumes. Enterprise hiring teams want proof of executive relationship management. SMB teams want high-volume onboarding efficiency. Match your resume's emphasis to the segment the company serves before applying.
Target companies at the right growth stage
Early-stage startups want generalists who can build the CS function from scratch. Series B and beyond usually want specialists in renewals or technical onboarding. Reading a company's recent funding news helps you pitch the exact version of yourself they need.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists customer success manager openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a structured account review walkthrough
Many CS interviews include a live role-play or take-home where you run a quarterly business review. Practice walking through customer health data, identifying risk signals, and recommending a concrete action plan in under ten minutes without over-relying on slides.
Negotiate on variable compensation separately
Customer success manager offers often include a bonus tied to retention or expansion targets. Before accepting, ask how attainment is calculated, what the average payout has been, and whether the quota is set before or after your book is assigned.
Customer Success Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most customer success managers?
The companies hiring the most customer success managers right now include Spectrum, Intuit, and Amazon, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. SaaS and enterprise software companies consistently post the highest volume of customer success manager roles year-round.
How many customer success manager jobs are remote?
About 82% of customer success manager openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, making it one of the more remote-accessible roles in business operations. Onboarding specialist and digital customer success sub-roles tend to have the highest share of fully remote positions, while enterprise and strategic account roles more often require occasional on-site visits.
How do you become a customer success manager?
Start in a support, sales, or account coordinator role where you manage client relationships and learn how customers use a product. Build familiarity with CRM tools and customer health metrics, then move into a junior or associate customer success role. From there, take ownership of a named account book, demonstrate measurable retention results, and apply for customer success manager positions with that record behind you.
Can you get a customer success manager job with no experience?
Yes, especially if you reframe adjacent experience. Time spent in technical support, inside sales, or project coordination transfers directly to customer success work. Hiring teams for associate or entry-level customer success manager roles look for people who can follow a structured onboarding playbook, de-escalate unhappy clients, and learn a product quickly, not candidates who already know the industry.
What does the customer success manager interview process look like?
Most companies run a recruiter screen, a hiring manager conversation, and then a skills assessment that often involves a mock quarterly business review or a written account plan. Final rounds typically include a panel with sales, product, or support leaders who want to see how you collaborate across teams. Some companies ask for a thirty-sixty-ninety day plan as a take-home before the final interview.
Where can I find and apply to customer success manager jobs?
You can find and apply to customer success manager jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and industry background, then apply directly to each one that fits.
