Finance Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance manager in Virginia?
Finance manager roles in Virginia typically require a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or economics, followed by several years of progressive experience in financial analysis or accounting. Virginia does not require a state-issued license specifically for finance managers, but obtaining a CPA through the Virginia Board of Accountancy or a CFA designation substantially improves hiring prospects. In government contracting, familiarity with DCAA audit standards is a frequent differentiator.
Which companies hire finance managers in Virginia?
Employers hiring finance managers in Virginia right now include Amazon, Capital One, and Eaton, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's dense concentration of defense contractors and federal agencies in the Northern Virginia corridor means many of the most active hiring organizations operate in government contracting and professional services.
Which Virginia cities have the most finance manager jobs?
Arlington, McLean, and Richmond are the Virginia cities with the most finance manager openings, driven by Northern Virginia's federal contracting ecosystem and corporate headquarters presence, Richmond's established financial services and insurance sector, and Virginia Beach's mix of military installations and regional banking operations.
Are there remote finance manager jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than many management roles, since finance manager work is largely desk-based and analytical. About 33% of finance manager openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the broader shift in corporate finance toward flexible arrangements. FP&A and financial reporting positions tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while roles requiring hands-on oversight of accounting teams or government contract audits are more likely to be on-site.
How can I get hired as a finance manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a financial analyst or junior accountant role first and building toward management. Large Virginia employers in the contracting space, including firms based in the Northern Virginia corridor, regularly bring on analysts through associate and new-grad programs. Earning a CPA through the Virginia Board of Accountancy or beginning CFA coursework signals ambition to hiring managers. Lateral moves from roles in government accounting, audit, or budget analysis are common bridges into finance management at Virginia organizations.
Where can I find and apply to finance manager jobs in Virginia?
