HR Generalist Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hr generalist in Pennsylvania?
A bachelor's degree in human resources or business administration is the standard starting point for hr generalist roles in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania does not require a state-issued license to work as an hr generalist, but earning a nationally recognized credential such as the SHRM-CP or PHR significantly strengthens your candidacy with Pennsylvania employers. Large employers in healthcare, finance, and manufacturing tend to favor candidates who combine a relevant degree with at least one recognized certification.
How much do HR generalists make in Pennsylvania?
HR generalists in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $70,450 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $46,610 for the lowest 10% to over $119,850 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire hr generalists in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring hr generalists in Pennsylvania right now include Aramark, Project HOME, and The Home Depot, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of major health systems, regional banks, and large manufacturers means demand for hr generalists stays steady throughout the year across a wide range of industries and employer sizes.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most hr generalist jobs?
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and York have the most hr generalist openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia dominates because of its density of hospital systems, corporate headquarters, and financial services firms, while Pittsburgh's resurgent technology and healthcare sectors drive consistent demand, and Harrisburg draws openings from state government agencies and regional employers anchored in the Capital Region.
Are there remote hr generalist jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than many comparable roles, because much of hr generalist work involving recruiting coordination, policy administration, and HRIS management can be done remotely. About 23% of hr generalist openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting employer flexibility in the field. Roles with heavy employee relations or on-site new-hire onboarding responsibilities are more likely to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a hr generalist in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting in an HR coordinator or HR assistant role and building toward a generalist title. Large Pennsylvania health systems such as UPMC and Jefferson Health, along with major regional employers like Aramark and SEI Investments, run structured HR associate or rotational programs designed for candidates without direct experience. Gaining exposure through payroll, benefits coordination, or recruiting support roles provides the cross-functional foundation most Pennsylvania employers expect before promoting into a full generalist seat. A SHRM-CP exam eligibility path, which allows candidates to sit before accumulating experience, also signals commitment to hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to hr generalist jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to hr generalist jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings updated on a rolling basis. Find a role that fits your experience and location, then apply directly through the listing.
