There is no state-issued license or registration for this role in North Carolina. Employers typically expect a background in B2B sales or client services, and candidates who can demonstrate a history of managing enterprise accounts in technology, life sciences, or financial services are the strongest applicants in this market.
How much do key account managers make in North Carolina?
Key account managers in North Carolina earn a median of about $70,990 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,200 for the lowest 10% to over $144,310 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire key account managers in North Carolina?
Employers hiring key account managers in North Carolina right now include ABB, Advantage Solutions, and RSM, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. North Carolina's concentration of technology companies in the Research Triangle and large financial institutions in Charlotte means demand is particularly consistent in those two metro areas.
Which North Carolina cities have the most key account manager jobs?
Charlotte, Cary, and Raleigh have the most key account manager openings in North Carolina. Charlotte drives volume through its large financial services, logistics, and corporate headquarters presence, while Raleigh and Durham benefit from the Research Triangle's dense cluster of technology, pharmaceutical, and enterprise software companies that rely heavily on dedicated account management teams.
Are there remote key account manager jobs in North Carolina?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 89% of key account manager openings tied to North Carolina are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the role centers on calls, video meetings, and CRM work rather than daily on-site presence. Strategic account planning, reporting, and internal coordination are the functions most commonly performed remotely, though travel for key client visits is still expected in most roles.
How can I get hired as a key account manager in North Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a junior account manager or sales development representative role at a mid-size technology or healthcare company in the Raleigh-Durham or Charlotte market, where growth-stage firms regularly hire candidates without extensive account management history. Roles like inside sales representative, customer success associate, or business development coordinator at companies in the Research Triangle Park corridor are common stepping stones. Earning a Salesforce certification or completing a relevant business certification through a University of North Carolina system program gives candidates a concrete edge when competing against more experienced applicants.
