Office Administrator Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a office administrator in Iowa?
No state-issued license is required to work as an office administrator in Iowa, so the path centers on education and targeted credentials. Most Iowa employers expect at least an associate degree in business administration or office management, available at institutions like Des Moines Area Community College or Kirkwood Community College. Earning a Certified Administrative Professional designation strengthens your application considerably, as Iowa's larger employers in healthcare and financial services look for it when filling senior roles.
Which companies hire office administrators in Iowa?

Iowa's large insurance carriers, regional health systems, and agricultural cooperatives tend to post the most consistent openings for this role throughout the year.
Which Iowa cities have the most office administrator jobs?
Sioux City, Marion, and Clear Lake are the Iowa cities with the most office administrator openings. Des Moines drives the largest share of listings due to its concentration of insurance headquarters, financial services firms, and state government offices, while Cedar Rapids and Iowa City add significant volume through healthcare networks, manufacturing operations, and the University of Iowa's administrative departments.
Are there remote office administrator jobs in Iowa?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since many office administrator roles involve on-site coordination, mail handling, and in-person support. About 0% of office administrator openings tied to Iowa are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with fully remote positions appearing most often in insurance operations and data-entry-heavy administrative roles at larger Iowa companies.
How can I get hired as a office administrator in Iowa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for receptionist, administrative assistant, or office coordinator roles at Iowa's healthcare systems and regional insurance companies, which regularly bring on candidates without extensive backgrounds.
