Operations Director Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a operations director in Tennessee?
Most operations directors in Tennessee reach the role through a combination of a bachelor's degree in business, operations management, industrial engineering, or a related field, followed by progressive management experience in their sector. Tennessee does not require a state-issued license for most operations director roles, but those working in regulated industries such as healthcare may need to align with Tennessee Department of Health standards or facility accreditation requirements. Earning a certification like a Certified Manager credential strengthens candidacy.
Which companies hire operations directors in Tennessee?
Employers hiring operations directors in Tennessee right now include The Waters, Dialysis Clinic, and First Watch, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Tennessee's concentration of logistics, healthcare, and manufacturing employers means demand for operations leadership is spread across both corporate headquarters and large regional facilities throughout the state.
Which Tennessee cities have the most operations director jobs?
Nashville, Memphis, and Brentwood have the most operations director openings in Tennessee. Nashville drives the largest share through its healthcare systems, corporate headquarters, and distribution networks, while Memphis is a global logistics hub anchored by FedEx and a dense concentration of warehouse and supply chain operations, and Knoxville reflects demand from manufacturing and university-affiliated institutions in East Tennessee.
Are there remote operations director jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're relatively limited. Operations director roles are often tied to managing physical facilities, teams, and supply chains on site, which limits full remote arrangements. About 37% of operations director openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to cluster in corporate strategy, multi-site oversight, and technology-driven operations roles where physical presence is less constant.
How can I get hired as a operations director in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an operations supervisor or operations manager role first, then building toward director-level responsibility. Large Tennessee employers including Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Amazon fulfillment centers in the state, and Tennessee Valley Authority hire operations coordinators and supervisors who can grow into director roles. A bachelor's degree combined with a Lean or Six Sigma certification gives candidates a concrete edge when competing for these stepping-stone positions.
Where can I find and apply to operations director jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to operations director jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find the roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the employers posting them.
