Why does the job exist?
The position exists to provide executive-level leadership, coordination, and oversight of strategic initiatives and operational priorities within the New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD). The position serves as a senior resource to the Cabinet Secretary and executive leadership in advancing department priorities, resolving complex operational issues, and implementing initiatives that cross organizational boundaries.
The position provides leadership for programs, projects, and operational functions as assigned and serves as a flexible executive resource for emerging issues and priorities identified by the Cabinet Secretary.

The position leads complex initiatives from planning through implementation and evaluates operational and organizational issues to develop recommendations and practical solutions. The incumbent coordinates activities across divisions, facilities, contractors, state agencies, and other stakeholders and monitors progress toward established objectives.
Duties may vary widely based on the priorities and operational needs of the Department. Responsibilities may include strategic planning, program and process improvement, policy implementation, compliance initiatives, data analysis, interagency coordination, and other department-wide projects requiring executive-level oversight.
The position conducts research and analysis, prepares executive-level reports and recommendations, identifies barriers to successful implementation, and develops strategies to address them. The incumbent may represent the Department or Cabinet Secretary in meetings, committees, workgroups, and other forums as assigned.

Minimum Qualification
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Corrections, Guidance and Counseling, Social Work, Police Science, Criminal Justice or related field and eight (8) years of experience in corrections, of which five (5) years must have been in probation and parole and five (5) years must have been supervisory or management. Experience in the areas of social work, guidance and counseling, and/or law enforcement may substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience in corrections. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling fourteen (14) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
This position is designed safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of Federal and State law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Pre-employment background check is required and conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
