Physician Assistant Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physician assistant in Washington?
To practice as a physician assistant in Washington, you must hold an active license from the Washington Medical Commission, the state body that oversees PA licensure. Eligibility requires graduation from an ARC-PA accredited master's-level PA program and passing the PANCE administered by the NCCPA. Washington does not require a separate state exam, so passing the PANCE and submitting your application to the Washington Medical Commission is the primary licensing path.
How much do physician assistants make in Washington?
Physician assistants in Washington earn a median of about $164,360 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $125,580 for the lowest 10% to over $218,150 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire physician assistants in Washington?
Employers hiring physician assistants in Washington right now include Optum, Signify Health, and University Of Washington, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Washington's integrated health systems, federally qualified health centers, and growing network of multispecialty groups generate consistent openings across both urban and rural communities.
Which Washington cities have the most physician assistant jobs?
Seattle, Washington State, and Yakima have the most physician assistant openings in Washington. Seattle's concentration of academic medical centers, specialty clinics, and regional hospital campuses drives the bulk of the volume, while Spokane serves as the dominant hiring hub for Eastern Washington, with MultiCare and Providence operating large systems there.
Are there remote physician assistant jobs in Washington?
Yes, but they're rare. Physician assistant work is fundamentally hands-on and clinical, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 60% of physician assistant openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and most of those involve telehealth follow-up, chronic disease management, or administrative clinical roles rather than primary patient assessment duties.
How can I get hired as a physician assistant in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a postgraduate PA residency or fellowship, and Washington has options through UW Medicine and MultiCare for new graduates seeking structured clinical training in primary care, emergency medicine, or surgery. Candidates without residency access often move in from adjacent roles such as medical assistant, surgical technologist, or registered nurse while completing their PA program. Holding an active Washington Medical Commission license on day one and demonstrating clinical hours in a Washington-relevant specialty strengthens any new-grad application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to physician assistant jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to physician assistant jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current Washington openings across specialties and employment settings. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
