Restaurant Manager Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a restaurant manager in Massachusetts?
Most restaurant managers in Massachusetts move up from front-of-house or kitchen roles after earning a ServSafe Food Manager certification, which the Massachusetts Department of Public Health recognizes as the baseline food safety credential. Associate or bachelor's degrees in hospitality management from programs at Johnson and Wales, UMass Amherst, or Bunker Hill Community College strengthen candidates. Employers typically look for a combination of on-the-floor supervisory experience and that certification before promoting or hiring externally.
Which companies hire restaurant managers in Massachusetts?
Companies currently hiring restaurant managers in Massachusetts include Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub, Cafua Management, and Taco Bell, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's dense mix of hotel groups, university dining programs, and regional multi-unit operators creates consistent openings across the state year-round.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most restaurant manager jobs?
The cities with the most restaurant manager openings in Massachusetts are Boston, Plymouth, and Worcester. Boston drives the largest share because of its concentration of hotels, convention venues, and independent fine dining, while Worcester and Cambridge generate steady volume through university dining contracts, hospital food service operators, and neighborhood restaurant groups that have grown significantly over the past decade.
Are there remote restaurant manager jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of restaurant manager openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of overseeing a dining floor, kitchen, and hourly staff in real time. The roles most likely to carry any remote component are multi-unit district managers who handle scheduling, vendor negotiations, and reporting from a home office between site visits.
How can I get hired as a restaurant manager in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a shift supervisor or assistant manager role at a high-volume Massachusetts operator, where you build P&L exposure and scheduling responsibility quickly. Large hotel groups like Marriott and Hilton properties in the Boston area run structured assistant manager pipelines, and university dining contractors such as Aramark and Sodexo hire from their own hourly staff. Earning a ServSafe Food Manager certification through the Massachusetts Food Protection Program immediately separates first-time candidates from the field.
