Sales Solutions Engineer Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales solutions engineer in Virginia?
Most Virginia employers hire sales solutions engineers with a bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, engineering, or information systems, combined with hands-on experience in a technical or presales role. Virginia does not require a state-issued license for this position. Candidates targeting federal contractor roles in Northern Virginia often benefit from pursuing a CompTIA Security+ or similar vendor-neutral certification, which supports security clearance eligibility valued heavily across the state's defense and government IT sectors.
Which companies hire sales solutions engineers in Virginia?
Employers hiring sales solutions engineers in Virginia right now include Amazon Web Services, Amazon, and Booz Allen Hamilton, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's deep concentration of federal contractors and defense-focused technology firms means many openings involve government agency accounts or classified program support.
Which Virginia cities have the most sales solutions engineer jobs?
Herndon, Arlington, and Fairfax lead Virginia for sales solutions engineer openings. Northern Virginia drives the largest share of postings, powered by the region's dense cluster of federal contractors, cloud providers, and cybersecurity firms serving government clients, while Richmond and Hampton Roads contribute openings tied to financial services, healthcare IT, and defense technology employers headquartered or regionally based there.
Are there remote sales solutions engineer jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than most technical roles, since presales work is heavily communication-driven and travel-based rather than tied to a fixed worksite. About 46% of sales solutions engineer openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting broader flexibility in the field. Discovery calls, product demonstrations, and proposal development are the tasks most commonly performed fully remote, while on-site client visits remain standard for enterprise deals.
How can I get hired as a sales solutions engineer in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a technical support, systems administration, or inside sales role at a Virginia-based technology or defense firm into a junior presales or sales associate engineer position. Large Virginia employers such as Leidos and Booz Allen Hamilton run associate and early career programs that place candidates without direct presales experience into structured rotational tracks. Building a portfolio of product walkthroughs, obtaining a vendor certification such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Salesforce Administrator, and targeting smaller Virginia-area managed service providers for a first presales role all strengthen a candidate's profile meaningfully.
Where can I find and apply to sales solutions engineer jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to sales solutions engineer jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to each employer through the listing.
