Strategic Business Development Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a strategic business development in New Jersey?
Most strategic business development roles in New Jersey require a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, finance, or a related discipline, though no state-issued license is required for the role itself. Employers in New Jersey's biopharma and financial services sectors often prefer candidates who have completed industry-specific certifications such as the Certified Business Development Expert credential or relevant continuing education through institutions like Rutgers Business School. Building a record of B2B pipeline work through internships or inside sales roles is the most common path into the field.
Which companies hire strategic business developments in New Jersey?
Employers hiring strategic business developments in New Jersey right now include EnerSys, Lockheed Martin, and The Wyanoke, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's concentration of Fortune 500 pharmaceutical, financial services, and technology firms means openings frequently come from large enterprise employers with dedicated business development divisions rather than early-stage startups.
Which New Jersey cities have the most strategic business development jobs?
The cities with the most strategic business development openings in New Jersey are New Jersey, Wayne, and Iselin. Newark and Jersey City generate high volume because of their proximity to New York City's financial and technology ecosystem, while Princeton draws openings from the dense cluster of pharmaceutical and life sciences headquarters located along the Route 1 corridor in central New Jersey.
Are there remote strategic business development jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, and more than most fields, because strategic business development work centers on communication, relationship management, and analysis rather than physical presence. About 50% of strategic business development openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting employer flexibility across the state. The functions most commonly offered remotely are account strategy, market research, and partner pipeline management, while roles requiring regular client or executive site visits remain primarily on-site.
How can I get hired as a strategic business development in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an inside sales, sales development representative, or account coordinator role at one of New Jersey's large pharma, tech, or financial services employers, which routinely recruit new graduates into structured rotational or associate programs. Companies like Becton Dickinson and Conduent run early-career development programs in New Jersey that feed directly into business development tracks. Earning a Rutgers Business School certificate in sales management or completing a relevant internship through the New Jersey Business Action Center strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
