Which education employers in Delaware sponsor H-1B visas?
The University of Delaware is the most active H-1B visa sponsor in the state's education sector, with a consistent record of filings for faculty, researchers, and academic staff. Delaware State University and Wilmington University also appear in Department of Labor disclosure data as education H-1B sponsors. Larger K-12 school districts and private colleges have filed petitions less frequently, typically for specialized instructional or administrative roles.
Which cities in Delaware have the most education H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Newark is the primary hub, driven by the University of Delaware's size and research activity. Dover comes second, anchored by Delaware State University. Wilmington, as the state's largest city, has education H-1B activity tied to community colleges, private schools, and workforce development organizations. Given Delaware's small geographic footprint, many professionals commute across these three areas without relocating.
What types of education roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Delaware?
Roles that routinely qualify include tenure-track and visiting faculty positions, postdoctoral researchers, instructional designers, education data analysts, and academic administrators requiring a specialized degree. The H-1B requires the position to be a specialty occupation, meaning it must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. General teaching assistant roles or positions where any bachelor's degree qualifies tend to face more scrutiny from USCIS.
How do I find education H-1B sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate is specifically built for international job seekers and filters education jobs in Delaware by H-1B sponsorship history, so you're not manually sifting through postings from employers who don't sponsor. Search the Delaware education category on Migrate Mate to surface roles at institutions like the University of Delaware and Delaware State University that have a documented record of filing H-1B petitions for education professionals.
Are there any Delaware-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in education?
Delaware's education market is small relative to neighboring states like Pennsylvania and New Jersey, which means fewer total H-1B filings in the sector each year. However, the University of Delaware's R2 research designation supports a steady flow of petitions for faculty and research staff. Proximity to Philadelphia also means some employers operate across state lines, and your I-129 petition must reflect the specific worksite location where you'll primarily work.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B education jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
