Which accounting companies sponsor H-1B visas in Iowa?
Principal Financial Group and Collins Aerospace are among Iowa's larger employers with established H-1B visa sponsorship histories in finance and accounting functions. Regional public accounting firms based in Des Moines, including LWBJ and Eide Bailly, have also sponsored H-1B workers. University-affiliated accounting roles at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University represent another category of sponsors, as educational institutions are cap-exempt H-1B filers.
Which cities in Iowa have the most accounting H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines accounts for the majority of Iowa's accounting H-1B sponsorship activity, driven by its concentration of insurance companies, financial services firms, and corporate headquarters. Cedar Rapids is the second-largest market, with manufacturers and regional employers filing LCAs for accounting positions. Iowa City and Ames see smaller but consistent demand through university systems and affiliated research organizations.
What types of accounting roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Roles that routinely qualify include staff accountant, senior accountant, financial analyst, tax analyst, internal auditor, and CPA-track positions requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, finance, or a closely related field. The position must theoretically require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific discipline to meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard. General bookkeeping or data-entry roles without a degree requirement typically do not qualify.
How do I find accounting H-1B sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters accounting H-1B sponsorship jobs in Iowa by employer, city, and role type. Rather than sorting through thousands of general postings, Migrate Mate surfaces positions from employers with verified H-1B sponsorship histories, saving significant research time. Filtering by Iowa and the accounting category gives you a focused list of realistic opportunities for H-1B candidates.
Are there any Iowa-specific considerations for H-1B accounting sponsorship?
Iowa does not impose state-level restrictions on H-1B employment, so federal H-1B rules apply in full. One practical consideration is that Iowa's accounting job market is smaller than coastal hubs, meaning fewer total openings but also less competition among H-1B candidates. CPA licensure in Iowa requires passing the Uniform CPA Exam and meeting Iowa Board of Accountancy education requirements, which international candidates should review separately from their visa eligibility.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B accounting jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
