Which aerospace and defense companies sponsor H-1B visas in Maryland?
Maryland's aerospace and defense H-1B visa sponsors include Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Leidos, BAE Systems, and Booz Allen Hamilton, all of which maintain large operations tied to federal contracts across the state. Smaller defense contractors and government-adjacent firms in the BWI and National Capital Region corridor also file H-1B petitions regularly, particularly for engineering and technology roles.
Which cities in Maryland have the most aerospace and defense H-1B sponsorship jobs?
The greatest concentration of aerospace and defense H-1B jobs in Maryland is found in Bethesda, Rockville, Columbia, and Linthicum Heights, all within proximity to federal agencies such as NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt and the NSA and Cyber Command presence at Fort Meade. The Baltimore-Washington corridor is the primary hiring zone for defense contractors seeking sponsored talent.
What types of aerospace and defense roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Maryland?
Roles that typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Maryland's aerospace and defense sector include systems engineers, aerospace engineers, software developers, cybersecurity analysts, data scientists, and electrical engineers. These positions generally require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related technical field, satisfying USCIS specialty occupation criteria. Program management and intelligence analysis roles with advanced degree requirements also commonly appear in H-1B filings.
How do I find aerospace and defense H-1B sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate lets you search verified H-1B sponsorship jobs in Maryland's aerospace and defense sector, filtering by employer, location, and role type using DOL Labor Condition Application data. This shows which specific Maryland employers have actively sponsored H-1B workers for aerospace and defense positions, giving you a factual basis for targeting your applications rather than guessing which contractors sponsor.
Are there any Maryland-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in aerospace and defense?
Many aerospace and defense roles in Maryland require security clearances, which are issued by the federal government separately from the H-1B visa process. H-1B status itself does not prevent clearance eligibility, but the adjudication process can take longer for foreign nationals and some clearance levels are restricted to U.S. citizens only. Confirm clearance requirements with the employer before applying, as they significantly affect which positions are accessible on an H-1B.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B aerospace & defense jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
