Which visa types are most common for accounting roles in Minnesota?
H-1B visas dominate for entry-level and mid-level accounting positions, particularly for roles requiring specialized knowledge in tax, audit, or financial systems. L-1 visas are common for international transfers within global firms like EY or PwC. O-1 visas occasionally apply for senior professionals with exceptional expertise in areas like forensic accounting or complex international tax structures.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most accounting sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis leads with the highest concentration of sponsorship opportunities, hosting headquarters for Target, General Mills, and major accounting firm offices. What prevailing wage considerations apply to accounting roles in Minnesota?
Minnesota accounting salaries generally align with Midwest standards, often 10-15% lower than coastal markets but with significantly lower cost of living. CPA certification and specialized skills in areas like international tax or SEC reporting command premium wages that support H-1B sponsorship economics.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored accounting jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
