Which agriculture companies sponsor Green Card visas in New York?
New York agriculture Green Card sponsorship comes primarily from dairy processors, large nursery and greenhouse operations, and food manufacturing companies with farm-adjacent roles. Chobani's upstate New York facilities have a history of sponsoring foreign nationals. Cornell Cooperative Extension-affiliated agribusinesses and large-scale vegetable operations in the Hudson Valley and Finger Lakes region also appear in PERM labor certification filings, particularly for agronomist and farm management roles.
Which cities in New York have the most agriculture Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Sponsorship activity in New York agriculture is concentrated outside New York City. The Hudson Valley corridor, including areas around Kingston and Poughkeepsie, has significant fruit and vegetable production. Upstate cities like Syracuse, Ithaca, and Buffalo serve as hubs for dairy, crop science, and agribusiness management roles. The North Fork of Long Island generates sponsorship in viticulture and horticultural operations, particularly for skilled technical positions.
What types of agriculture roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in New York?
Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification in New York agriculture typically targets roles requiring specialized qualifications that cannot easily be filled domestically. Agronomists, crop scientists, dairy herd managers, agricultural engineers, and food safety specialists are the categories most commonly appearing in PERM filings. General seasonal farm labor rarely qualifies for employment-based Green Card sponsorship, which requires demonstrating that no qualified U.S. workers are available for the position.
How do I find agriculture Green Card sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type and state, so you can search directly for agriculture roles in New York where employers have indicated Green Card sponsorship. This saves significant time compared to sorting through general job listings. Because PERM-based sponsorship requires employer initiation, the most effective approach is identifying New York agribusinesses with a prior sponsorship history and applying directly to open roles in their organizations.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for agriculture Green Card sponsorship?
New York's Department of Agriculture and Markets oversees licensing for certain agricultural businesses, which can affect the documentation employers provide during PERM audits. The state's strong agricultural research presence, particularly through Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, means some sponsoring employers are research institutions rather than commercial farms. New York also has active H-2A temporary agricultural worker programs, but those are separate from and do not convert to Green Card sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card agriculture jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
