Performs routine and scheduled preventative maintenance of building systems and equipment and assists in routine inspections of general carpentry, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) systems. Preforms general carpentry and basic maintenance tasks while supporting the safe and efficient operation of facilities. Works individually and collaboratively with other trades staff, outside vendors, and Cleveland State University (CSU) employees. Maintains and communicates accurate records of maintenance activities and parts inventory. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma, GED, or state recognized equivalent.
- Experience in general maintenance, carpentry, residential home repair, construction, or related field, may include vocational training.
- Ability to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. If lifting is over fifty (50) pounds, ability to buddy lift or use of tools to aid in lifting.
- Ability to climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, and various aerial lifts in excess of twenty-five (25) feet.
- Ability to work second shift, weekends, and on call-hours as required.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to establish and maintain driver eligibility under CSU Driving and Motor Vehicle Policy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) or other workplace safety certifications.
- Maintenance or repair experience in an institutional or industrial environment.
- Welding experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
- Knowledge of carpentry, masonry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC building systems.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to work as an individual contributor and an effective team member.
- Ability to be dependable and punctual in reporting to work as scheduled.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision while maintaining a high standard of safety and quality.
- Ability to use appropriate hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment safely and effectively.
- Proficient in use of digital and mobile (i.e., phone or tablet) maintenance work order systems, email, and messaging.
