Which aerospace & defense companies sponsor H-1B visas in South Carolina?
Boeing has a substantial manufacturing and engineering presence in North Charleston and has filed H-1B visa petitions for roles in aerospace engineering and systems integration. Lockheed Martin, Booz Allen Hamilton, and L3Harris also operate in South Carolina and have sponsored H-1B workers in technical and engineering capacities. Smaller defense contractors and suppliers in the Charleston and Greenville areas additionally participate in H-1B sponsorship for specialized roles.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most aerospace & defense H-1B sponsorship jobs?
North Charleston and Charleston lead the state for aerospace and defense H-1B opportunities, largely driven by Boeing's large-scale manufacturing facility and the proximity to Joint Base Charleston. The Greenville-Spartanburg metro area is another active hub, home to several defense suppliers and advanced manufacturing firms. Columbia also has defense-related employers connected to Fort Jackson and state government contracting activity.
How do I find aerospace & defense H-1B sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international professionals seeking H-1B sponsorship roles and lets you filter by industry and state. Searching for aerospace and defense positions in South Carolina on Migrate Mate surfaces employers with active or recent H-1B sponsorship history in this sector, saving you from manually researching which companies in the state have sponsored visas in the past.
What types of aerospace & defense roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in South Carolina?
Roles that commonly meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard in this sector include aerospace engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, systems engineers, avionics specialists, software developers working on defense applications, and quality assurance engineers. These positions generally require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related technical field. Program management and defense IT roles can also qualify when the employer can demonstrate the position requires specialized academic credentials.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in South Carolina's aerospace & defense sector?
Many aerospace and defense roles in South Carolina involve work on government contracts, which can require security clearances. A security clearance is not a visa status and is a separate employer-driven process, but some positions will not be accessible to candidates who are not eligible for clearance. H-1B visa holders may be eligible to apply for certain clearance levels, though eligibility depends on the specific clearance type and employer. Candidates should clarify clearance requirements with each employer before applying.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B aerospace & defense jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
