Which education employers in Texas sponsor H-1B visas?
Large public universities are the most consistent H-1B sponsors in Texas education. The University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, the University of Houston, and UT Southwestern Medical Center regularly file H-1B petitions for faculty, researchers, and academic staff. Major public school districts, including Houston ISD and Dallas ISD, also sponsor H-1B visas for teachers and specialists in high-need subject areas.
Which cities in Texas have the most education H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas-Fort Worth concentrate the highest volume of education H-1B jobs in Texas. Austin is home to UT Austin and a growing edtech sector. Houston has multiple research universities and the state's largest school district. The DFW metro includes University of North Texas, Southern Methodist University, and numerous large suburban school districts that recruit internationally for specialized instructional and administrative roles.
What types of education roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Texas?
Roles that require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field qualify as specialty occupations under the H-1B. In Texas education, this includes university faculty, postdoctoral researchers, instructional designers, curriculum specialists, data analysts, and education technology professionals. K-12 teaching positions can qualify when the district requires a degree in the specific subject being taught, which is common for STEM, bilingual, and special education roles.
How do I find education H-1B sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters education jobs in Texas by H-1B sponsorship eligibility, so you are not sorting through roles that will not support your visa. You can filter by city, role type, and employer to find positions at Texas universities, school districts, and edtech companies that have an established history of H-1B filings. This significantly narrows your search compared to general job boards.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in education?
Texas does not have state-level visa sponsorship requirements, but the size and structure of its education sector creates practical differences. Public universities operate under state employment rules that can affect how quickly they initiate H-1B petitions, and many use established immigration counsel to manage filings. For K-12 positions, the Texas Education Agency sets educator certification requirements that are separate from H-1B eligibility, meaning you may need to pursue state certification alongside the visa process.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B education jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
