Search Energy Jobs in TexasEnergy H-1B Sponsorship Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
Which energy companies in Texas sponsor H-1B visas?
Some of the most active H-1B visa sponsors in Texas's energy sector include ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, ConocoPhillips, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, and Schlumberger. Midstream and power companies such as Kinder Morgan, Vistra Energy, and NRG Energy also appear in Department of Labor LCA disclosure data as H-1B filers. Sponsorship activity and hiring needs vary year to year, so reviewing recent LCA filings gives the most current picture.
Which Texas cities have the most energy H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Houston is by far the leading city, home to the headquarters of many of the world's largest oil, gas, and energy services companies. Midland and Odessa serve as operational hubs for Permian Basin activity, with significant demand for petroleum engineers and field-technical staff. Dallas and Irving have a notable presence in energy management, utilities, and corporate functions that also generate H-1B filings.
What types of energy roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Texas?
Roles that commonly meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard in the energy sector include petroleum engineers, reservoir engineers, geoscientists, chemical engineers, electrical engineers specializing in power systems, data scientists working on drilling or production analytics, and environmental engineers. The position must generally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Purely field-operations or trade-based roles typically do not qualify.
How do I find energy H-1B sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters listings by visa sponsorship type, including H-1B, and by industry and state. Searching the energy category filtered to Texas on Migrate Mate surfaces roles at companies with documented H-1B sponsorship histories, saving significant time compared to manually reviewing general job postings where sponsorship availability is often unclear or unlisted.
Are there any Texas-specific or energy-industry considerations for H-1B sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects total compensation comparisons but does not change federal H-1B requirements. Energy companies in Texas often operate under project-based structures, and H-1B workers assigned to third-party client sites must have a separate LCA covering each worksite location. Workers in cyclical sectors like oil and gas should also be aware that layoffs and visa status interact directly, since H-1B status is tied to the sponsoring employer.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B energy jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
