Which education employers in Wisconsin are known to sponsor Green Cards?
The University of Wisconsin System, including its flagship campus in Madison, is one of the most consistent Green Card sponsors in the state's education sector, particularly for faculty and research positions. Marquette University, the Medical College of Wisconsin, and Milwaukee Public Schools also have established sponsorship programs. Larger K-12 districts and private universities with graduate programs tend to have the HR infrastructure needed to manage the PERM labor certification process.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most education Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Madison and Milwaukee account for the majority of education Green Card sponsorship activity in Wisconsin. Madison benefits from the University of Wisconsin-Madison's large faculty and research workforce, while Milwaukee's concentration of private universities, public schools, and healthcare-affiliated education programs drives demand. Green Bay, Eau Claire, and La Crosse also have sponsoring institutions, primarily through regional UW System campuses and local school districts, though at lower volume than the two major cities.
What types of education roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Roles that typically qualify are those requiring a specific advanced degree, most commonly tenure-track and tenured faculty positions, postdoctoral researchers, instructional designers with specialized credentials, special education specialists, and STEM instructors at the K-12 or higher education level. Positions where an employer can demonstrate that no qualified U.S. worker is available are the foundation of PERM-based Green Card sponsorship. Generic administrative or paraprofessional roles are less commonly sponsored because they rarely meet that evidentiary bar.
How do I find education Green Card sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate is built specifically to surface jobs with confirmed visa sponsorship, including Green Card sponsorship, filtered by industry and state. Searching for education roles in Wisconsin on Migrate Mate lets you skip employers who don't sponsor and focus on institutions that do. Given Wisconsin's concentration of sponsoring universities and school districts, filtering by the Education category with a Wisconsin location on Migrate Mate is the most direct way to identify live openings.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific or education-specific factors that affect Green Card sponsorship?
Wisconsin does not have state-level immigration programs that affect federal Green Card processing, but the state's strong public university system creates a higher-than-average concentration of EB-1 and EB-2 sponsorship in education, particularly for faculty with research profiles. The PERM process requires employers to conduct good-faith recruitment before filing, which can extend timelines significantly. At universities, tenure-track hiring cycles also affect when sponsorship can realistically begin, so timing your application to the academic hiring calendar matters.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card education jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
