Which education employers in Wisconsin sponsor H-1B visas?
The University of Wisconsin-Madison and UW-Milwaukee are the most consistent H-1B sponsors in Wisconsin's education sector, regularly filing petitions for faculty, researchers, and academic staff. Marquette University, Beloit College, and Wisconsin's K-12 public school districts also sponsor H-1B workers, particularly for hard-to-fill teaching and specialist roles. Larger institutions file more frequently simply because they have dedicated international hiring infrastructure.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most education H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Madison has the highest concentration of education H-1B jobs in Wisconsin, driven by the flagship UW-Madison campus and surrounding research institutes. Milwaukee is the second-largest hub, with UW-Milwaukee, Marquette University, and Milwaukee Public Schools all active in the space. Green Bay and Oshkosh have smaller but growing pools of opportunities, particularly tied to UW System branch campuses and regional school districts.
What types of education roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Roles that qualify as specialty occupations are eligible, meaning the position must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. In education, this commonly includes tenure-track and adjunct faculty, postdoctoral researchers, instructional designers, educational psychologists, curriculum specialists, and data analysts working within academic institutions. General K-12 classroom teaching positions may qualify when the district can document a degree requirement specific to the subject area.
How do I find education H-1B sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, letting you filter by state, visa type, and industry to surface education roles in Wisconsin where employers have a documented history of H-1B sponsorship. Because sponsorship willingness is built into the search filters, you avoid applying to positions where visa support is unlikely. Start by browsing education listings filtered to Wisconsin on Migrate Mate to identify active sponsors in your target city and role type.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in education?
Wisconsin's UW System institutions follow federal H-1B rules but also coordinate through university international offices that handle petitions in-house, which can streamline the process compared to employers using outside counsel for the first time. Wisconsin K-12 districts that sponsor H-1B visas often do so under cap-exempt status if they qualify as nonprofit educational organizations, meaning they are not subject to the annual H-1B lottery. Confirming cap-exempt eligibility with a prospective employer is an important early step.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B education jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
