What Employers Look For
The qualifications that appear most often in VP marketing jobs.
- 10 or more years of progressive marketing experience with at least 3 in a leadership role
- Proven experience owning demand generation or brand strategy at a company with significant revenue scale
- Proficiency with marketing automation platforms such as HubSpot or Marketo and CRM systems like Salesforce
- Experience building and managing cross-functional marketing teams including content, growth, and product marketing
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to tie marketing programs directly to pipeline and revenue outcomes
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or a related field, with an MBA preferred for enterprise roles
Tips for Your VP Marketing Job Search
Quantify pipeline impact on your resume
VP Marketing candidates who tie their work to revenue outcomes move faster through screening. Show how campaigns you owned influenced pipeline, not just impressions or engagement. Hiring teams at this level expect ownership of a number, not just a channel.
Target companies at the right growth stage
A VP Marketing role at a Series B startup and one at a public enterprise demand completely different skill sets. Filter openings by company stage so your positioning matches what the business actually needs from marketing leadership right now.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists vp marketing openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Tailor your portfolio to the business model
B2B and B2C vp marketing roles evaluate different evidence. For B2B, highlight ABM programs, sales alignment, and pipeline contribution. For B2C, lead with brand equity, customer acquisition costs, and retention. Sending the same materials to both will cost you callbacks.
Prepare a first-90-days marketing plan
Interviewers at this level often ask what you'd prioritize immediately. Walking in with a concrete, hypothesis-driven plan for the first quarter signals strategic readiness and shows you've already diagnosed where the business needs marketing leadership to focus.
Negotiate scope before you negotiate pay
Before the compensation conversation, get clarity on budget authority, headcount, and what functions report to you. Vague org charts can mean inheriting a team you can't grow or a budget that can't support the goals you'll be held to.
VP Marketing Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most vp marketings?
The companies hiring the most vp marketings right now include Goldman Sachs, JPMorganChase, and Iterable, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Illinois, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is strongest in tech and healthcare sectors, where companies are scaling marketing functions ahead of fundraising or expansion.
How many vp marketing jobs are remote?
About 30% of vp marketing openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the senior and cross-functional nature of the role. Demand generation and product marketing sub-specializations tend to have the highest remote availability, while brand and communications roles more often require an on-site presence for executive alignment.
How do you become a vp marketing?
Most vp marketing professionals start in a specialist role in content, growth, or brand, then move into management as a marketing manager or director before stepping into a VP seat. Building a record of cross-functional leadership, owning a revenue-connected metric, and developing fluency in both strategy and execution are the clearest paths to the role.
Can you get hired as a vp marketing without extensive leadership experience?
It's possible, particularly at early-stage startups where the vp marketing is often the first dedicated marketing hire and must build the function from scratch. In those cases, deep channel expertise in growth or product marketing, a demonstrated ability to work without a team, and a concrete point of view on go-to-market strategy can outweigh years of people management.
What does the vp marketing interview process look like?
The process typically runs four to six rounds. An initial recruiter screen is followed by a hiring manager conversation focused on strategy and past results, then separate sessions with the CEO or CPO, cross-functional peers in sales and product, and often a presentation round where you walk through a marketing plan or case study. Reference checks happen before an offer.
Where can I find and apply to vp marketing jobs?
You can find and apply to vp marketing jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to each listing from the page.
