Accounting Associate Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting associate in Rhode Island?
Most accounting associate roles in Rhode Island require at minimum an associate degree in accounting or finance, with a bachelor's degree preferred by larger employers. Rhode Island does not require a state license to work as an accounting associate, but candidates who plan to advance toward CPA licensure should note that Rhode Island's Board of Accountancy oversees CPA certification through the state. Building proficiency in accounting software and completing internships at Providence-area firms or institutions significantly strengthens a candidate's standing.
Which companies hire accounting associates in Rhode Island?
Companies currently hiring accounting associates in Rhode Island include CVS Health, Gilbane, and Bally's Corporation, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's concentration of insurance carriers, hospital networks, and university systems means that large institutional employers tend to post accounting associate openings on a rolling basis throughout the year.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most accounting associate jobs?
Providence, Warwick, and Cumberland lead Rhode Island for accounting associate openings. Providence dominates as the state's economic and administrative center, drawing demand from financial services, healthcare, and government employers, while Cranston and Woonsocket reflect the broader distribution of manufacturing and regional business headquarters that rely on dedicated accounting support staff.
Are there remote accounting associate jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, and more than many comparable roles. About 30% of accounting associate openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based, software-driven nature of the work. Accounts payable processing, financial reporting, and reconciliation tasks tend to be the functions most commonly approved for fully remote or hybrid arrangements by Rhode Island employers.
How can I get hired as a accounting associate in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an accounts payable or accounts receivable clerk role, which many Providence-area employers use as a feeder position into accounting associate titles. Lifespan Health System and other large Rhode Island healthcare networks run administrative finance programs that regularly bring in candidates with limited experience. Community College of Rhode Island graduates with an accounting certificate are competitive for these openings, and proficiency in QuickBooks or Excel often outweighs years of experience at smaller regional firms.
Where can I find and apply to accounting associate jobs in Rhode Island?
You can find and apply to accounting associate jobs in Rhode Island on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
