Life Insurance Agent Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a life insurance agent in Rhode Island?
To become a life insurance agent in Rhode Island, you must obtain a life insurance producer license through the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation. The path requires completing a state-approved pre-licensing education course, passing the Rhode Island Life Insurance licensing exam, and submitting a license application. No college degree is required to sit for the exam, though many employers prefer candidates with a background in finance or business.
Which companies hire life insurance agents in Rhode Island?
Companies currently hiring life insurance agents in Rhode Island include East Greenwich Schools, Datavant, and Pharmaron, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's concentration of mutual insurers and regional carriers, anchored by long-established names like Amica Mutual headquartered in Lincoln, makes it a particularly active market for both captive and independent agent roles.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most life insurance agent jobs?
Providence, East Greenwich, and Rhode Island have the most life insurance agent openings in Rhode Island. Providence dominates as the state's financial and commercial hub, while Warwick and Cranston draw significant hiring because of their dense suburban populations and the regional offices and agency branches that major carriers maintain along the Route 2 and Post Road corridors.
Are there remote life insurance agent jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields because life insurance sales typically relies on in-person relationship building and face-to-face client consultations. About 100% of life insurance agent openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those opportunities tend to cluster in group benefits advising and telephone or virtual sales roles rather than traditional captive agent positions.
How can I get hired as a life insurance agent in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to captive carrier training programs, where companies like New York Life and MetLife recruit candidates without prior insurance experience and provide structured licensing support and mentored sales training. Many Rhode Island agencies also hire customer service representatives or inside sales associates as a first step, allowing candidates to earn their producer license on the job. Having a completed pre-licensing course or passing the state exam before applying gives candidates a meaningful edge.
Where can I find and apply to life insurance agent jobs in Rhode Island?
You can find and apply to life insurance agent jobs in Rhode Island on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and licensing status and apply directly to the employers posting them.
