Staff Accountant Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a staff accountant in Rhode Island?
Most Rhode Island employers require a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field as the baseline qualification for a staff accountant role. While the position itself does not require a state license, candidates pursuing advancement typically begin the CPA process through the Rhode Island Board of Accountancy, which oversees examination eligibility and licensure. Gaining experience through a public accounting firm or a corporate accounting department in Providence or Warwick is the most common starting path.
Which companies hire staff accountants in Rhode Island?
Employers hiring staff accountants in Rhode Island right now include Bally's Corporation, Bellevue Asset Management, and Citizens, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's mix of insurance carriers, healthcare systems, and manufacturing companies creates steady accounting demand beyond the public accounting sector.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most staff accountant jobs?
The cities with the most staff accountant openings in Rhode Island are Providence, Cranston, and Middletown. Providence anchors the market as the state's commercial and healthcare hub, while Warwick and Cranston draw openings from corporate headquarters and regional offices of insurance, manufacturing, and professional services firms that cluster along the Route 2 and Route 95 corridors.

Yes, and more than many fields, since staff accounting work is largely desk-based and document-driven. About 60% of staff accountant openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader adoption of flexible arrangements across finance teams. Roles focused on financial reporting, reconciliation, and close support tend to be the most amenable to fully remote or hybrid schedules.
How can I get hired as a staff accountant in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for accounts payable specialist, accounting assistant, or bookkeeper roles at Rhode Island healthcare systems like Lifespan or Care New England, which regularly onboard candidates without prior staff accountant titles. Public accounting firms in Providence also hire new graduates directly into associate roles where on-the-job training is built into the model. Demonstrating active CPA candidacy through the Rhode Island Board of Accountancy gives entry-level applicants a measurable edge during the hiring process.
