Tips for Your Advertising Sales Manager Job Search
Tailor your resume for the medium
Digital, broadcast, print, and out-of-home each have distinct buyer relationships and metrics. Mirror the medium in your resume by leading with the ad products, platforms, and client categories that match the specific channel the employer sells into.
Filter openings by channel and market size
Avoid applying broadly across every listing. Identify whether you perform best in local market direct sales or national agency buys, then target openings that match that scope. Mismatched market size is a common reason strong candidates get screened out early.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists advertising sales manager openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a pitch deck for interviews
Many advertising sales manager interviews include a mock pitch or a 30-60-90 day plan presentation. Prepare a short deck that shows how you would prospect, build a pipeline, and close deals in the employer's specific market. Generic plans rarely stand out.
Negotiate with comp structure in mind
Ad sales manager offers vary widely between base-heavy and commission-heavy structures. Before negotiating, clarify whether quota is tied to individual reps, your team, or the region, because that directly affects what earning potential in the offer actually means.
Advertising Sales Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most advertising sales managers?
The companies hiring the most advertising sales managers right now include Best Version Media, Terraboost Media, and Spectrum, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Florida, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Media conglomerates, local broadcast groups, and digital publishing networks consistently account for the highest volume of postings.
How many advertising sales manager jobs are remote?
About 67% of advertising sales manager openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the client relationship work has shifted to virtual. Digital and programmatic ad sales roles tend to have the highest share of remote arrangements, while local broadcast and out-of-home roles more often require in-market presence.
How do you become an advertising sales manager?
Most advertising sales managers start as account executives or media sales representatives, spending several years building a client roster and exceeding quota before moving into management. From there, demonstrating that you can recruit, coach, and retain sales talent is what gets you hired at the manager level. Pursuing a management opportunity within your current company is often faster than applying externally with no direct reports experience.
How do you get hired as an advertising sales manager with little experience?
Start by building a strong individual contributor record in any ad sales role, even at a small local media outlet or digital publisher, because hiring managers care most about whether you can close and retain clients. Volunteering to mentor junior reps or lead team training sessions creates a management narrative even without a formal title. Applying to player-coach roles at smaller companies is a practical way to get your first manager credit on paper.
What does the advertising sales manager interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a recruiter screen focused on your revenue history and team size managed, followed by a hiring manager interview that digs into how you coach underperforming reps and build pipeline. Later rounds often include a presentation where you pitch a mock plan for the territory or walk through a past deal you managed. References from former direct reports or sales directors are commonly requested before an offer is extended.
Where can I find and apply to advertising sales manager jobs?
You can find and apply to advertising sales manager jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your experience and channel background, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
