Assistant General Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a assistant general manager in Virginia?
Most assistant general manager roles in Virginia require a bachelor's degree in business, hospitality, or a related field, followed by several years of progressive supervisory experience in your target industry. Virginia does not issue a state-specific license for the role itself, but professionals in alcohol-serving venues must hold a valid RSVP or Manager Food Safety certification recognized by the Virginia Department of Health. Building that credential alongside hands-on department management experience is the clearest path to hiring.
Which companies hire assistant general managers in Virginia?
Virginia assistant general manager roles are posted by CAVA, Taco Bell, and Zaxby's and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Virginia's strong mix of hotel corridors, national retail headquarters in Northern Virginia, and large restaurant groups in Richmond and Hampton Roads keeps a wide range of employers actively recruiting for this role.
Which Virginia cities have the most assistant general manager jobs?
Richmond, Woodbridge, and Virginia Beach lead Virginia for assistant general manager openings right now. Northern Virginia's concentration of hotel brands, corporate retail, and mixed-use developments drives the highest volume, while Richmond's growing restaurant and property management sector and Virginia Beach's year-round hospitality and resort operations explain why mid-sized and coastal markets also appear consistently in the listings.
Are there remote assistant general manager jobs in Virginia?
Yes, but they're rare. Most assistant general manager roles require an on-site presence to oversee staff, vendors, and daily operations, so the role is not well suited to fully remote work. About 0% of assistant general manager openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be corporate or multi-unit oversight positions where administrative and reporting duties can be handled off-site between property visits.
How can I get hired as a assistant general manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to join a large Virginia hospitality or retail employer as a department supervisor, shift lead, or assistant manager and work toward the assistant general manager level from within. Marriott and Hilton both run structured management development programs at their Northern Virginia and Virginia Beach properties that promote from within. In food service, multi-unit operators based in Richmond frequently hire from kitchen manager and front-of-house lead roles. Earning a food safety manager certification recognized by Virginia can accelerate that internal progression.
Where can I find and apply to assistant general manager jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to assistant general manager jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to whichever positions fit.
