Business Development Specialist Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business development specialist in Mississippi?
Most business development specialist roles in Mississippi require a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or a related discipline, though no state-issued license applies to the role itself. Employers across Jackson, the Gulf Coast, and the Memphis border corridor typically expect candidates to have hands-on sales or account management experience before hiring into a specialist title. A Certified Professional Sales Person credential or a Mississippi-recognized project management certification strengthens applications considerably in competitive markets.
How much do business development specialists make in Mississippi?
Business development specialists in Mississippi earn a median of about $56,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $30,780 for the lowest 10% to over $95,240 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business development specialists in Mississippi?
Employers hiring business development specialists in Mississippi right now include CVS Health, Ryder System, and Jackson State University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Mississippi's mix of healthcare networks, defense contractors along the Gulf Coast, and regional financial institutions creates consistent demand for specialists who understand local client relationships and government procurement cycles.
Which Mississippi cities have the most business development specialist jobs?
Jackson, Mississippi, and Flowood have the most business development specialist openings in Mississippi right now. Jackson's concentration of healthcare systems, state government contractors, and regional bank headquarters drives the bulk of postings, while Gulfport and Biloxi benefit from defense and hospitality sector demand along the Gulf Coast, pulling in openings that require both federal contracting knowledge and commercial client development experience.
Are there remote business development specialist jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, and they are reasonably common given that much of the role centers on relationship management and strategy work that can be done off-site. About 45% of business development specialist openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting employer flexibility on prospecting and reporting tasks. Client-facing duties such as on-site presentations and contract negotiations typically require in-person presence, particularly with Mississippi's government and healthcare clients.
How can I get hired as a business development specialist in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a sales development representative or business development associate role at a Mississippi healthcare network, regional bank, or logistics firm, where structured onboarding replaces prior specialist experience. Employers such as large Jackson-area hospital systems and Gulf Coast defense subcontractors run new-hire rotational programs that feed into specialist tracks. A lateral move from account coordinator or marketing associate roles at Mississippi-based companies is equally effective, especially when paired with a Salesforce certification or a completed internship with a Mississippi Chamber of Commerce affiliate.
Where can I find and apply to business development specialist jobs in Mississippi?
You can find and apply to business development specialist jobs in Mississippi on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and target market, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
