Most business sales representative roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, though no state-issued license is required for the role itself. New York employers typically hire candidates who can demonstrate prior sales experience, even if informal, and strong communication skills. Many large New York companies run structured sales development or associate programs designed to move motivated candidates into full quota-carrying roles quickly.
How much do business sales representatives make in New York?
Business sales representatives in New York earn a median of about $92,190 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $45,750 for the lowest 10% to over $174,820 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business sales representatives in New York?
Employers hiring business sales representatives in New York right now include State Farm, Northwestern Mutual, and ADP, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of financial services firms, technology companies, and media organizations means the pipeline of open roles stays consistently active throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most business sales representative jobs?
New York, Albany, and Buffalo have the most business sales representative openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its concentration of corporate headquarters, financial institutions, and enterprise technology buyers, while Buffalo and Albany attract regional sales roles tied to manufacturing, healthcare systems, and state government procurement.
Are there remote business sales representative jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than many fields, since a significant portion of business sales work is phone, video, and email-based. About 24% of business sales representative openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how many technology and SaaS employers have adopted flexible arrangements. Territory-based and field sales roles covering physical accounts tend to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a business sales representative in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a sales development representative or inside sales associate role, which major New York employers use as structured entry points. Companies like Verizon, ADP, and large financial services firms based in New York City run formal sales training programs for candidates without direct experience. A demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, a relevant internship, or an associate's degree in business can each strengthen an application when experience is limited.
