Category Manager Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a category manager in Pennsylvania?
Most category manager roles in Pennsylvania require a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, marketing, or a related discipline, followed by experience in procurement, buying, or merchandising. Pennsylvania does not license category managers through a state board, so the path runs through employer experience and professional credentials such as the Certified Professional in Supply Management or the Category Management Association certification, which are widely recognized by Pennsylvania employers in retail, healthcare, and manufacturing.
How much do category managers make in Pennsylvania?
Category managers in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $141,790 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $84,480 for the lowest 10% to over $213,390 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire category managers in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring category managers in Pennsylvania right now include Highmark Health, Gopuff, and Rutter's, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large retail grocers, integrated health systems, and consumer goods manufacturers means category management roles appear across both corporate headquarters and regional procurement centers throughout the state.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most category manager jobs?
Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and York have the most category manager openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia leads because of its density of corporate retail, pharmaceutical, and healthcare headquarters, while Pittsburgh's strength in healthcare systems and manufacturing procurement drives demand there, and Harrisburg draws openings from regional grocery chains and state-linked supply chain operations.
Are there remote category manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than many supply chain roles, since category management is largely analytical and strategic rather than hands-on. About 69% of category manager openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves data analysis, vendor negotiation, and cross-functional planning that can be done off-site. The portions most likely to remain on-site are vendor meetings, market visits, and internal stakeholder reviews.
How can I get hired as a category manager in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a buyer, merchandise analyst, or procurement coordinator role, which large Pennsylvania retailers and health systems such as Giant Food Stores, Highmark Health, and Weis Markets use as a pipeline into category management. Building proficiency in spend analysis tools and completing a Category Management Association foundation course strengthens a candidate's profile. Adjacent roles in vendor relations, inventory planning, or retail analytics at Pennsylvania-based companies also provide the cross-functional exposure that hiring managers look for before promoting or hiring into a full category manager seat.
Where can I find and apply to category manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to category manager jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and elsewhere in the state. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty, then apply directly to the employer through each listing.
